Please keep in mind that posts on this forum are from members of the public sharing personal opinions. It is not a replacement for qualified medical advice from a veterinarian. Many illnesses share similar symptoms but require different treatments. A medical exam is necessary for an accurate diagnosis, without which appropriate treatment cannot be given.

You should always consult your vet before following any suggestions for medication or treatment you have read about. The wrong treatment could make your rabbit worse or mean your vet is unable to give the correct treatment because of drug interactions. Even non prescription drugs can do harm if given inappropriately.

We are very grateful to members who take time to answer other members questions, but please do be clear in your replies that you are sharing personal experience and not giving instructions on what must be done.

Urgent Medical Advice: If you need, or think you might need, urgent medical advice you should contact a vet. If it is out of working hours phone your vet's normal number and there should be an answer phone message with instructions on what to do.

eye discharge

hot cross bun

Alpha Buck
i have noticed 1 of my buns has discharge from both eyes she seems normal in herself and is eating/pooing shall i take her to the vets, also can the other buns catch it

I would definately take your bun to the vets. Hopefully it will be something simple and easy to treat with some eye drops.

I can't say if any other buns would catch it as i can exactly say what it would be, but a quick vet trip should sort it out.

Good luck x

My old boy Rio has a "troublesome" eye,Ive got eye drops for it.(FUCITHALMIC). His eye looks ok just a bit runny at times. It comes and goes ,I'll have to go back and get more stuff after the new year.A trip to the vet is needed. The vet at first mentioned "Pasturella" especially if he was sneezing,he did the odd time, a more serious condition that can get into their lungs.however it's not that."Rio" will be 8 in February so gets more infections etc easily now. Oh and the old boy had a full dental under general knockout about two months ago,his teeth are old and not great the vet said but they didn't have major spurs, but they were burred down to get rid of any little snags. Aww,he's a big old white tortie bun and is such a tolerant and gentle old guy,he's a house rabbit and lives in my bedroom at night but has the run of the house in daytime.I know he is in his twilight time, hopefully we will have him for some time yet. :)
