  • Please Note - Medical Advice

Please keep in mind that posts on this forum are from members of the public sharing personal opinions. It is not a replacement for qualified medical advice from a veterinarian. Many illnesses share similar symptoms but require different treatments. A medical exam is necessary for an accurate diagnosis, without which appropriate treatment cannot be given.

You should always consult your vet before following any suggestions for medication or treatment you have read about. The wrong treatment could make your rabbit worse or mean your vet is unable to give the correct treatment because of drug interactions. Even non prescription drugs can do harm if given inappropriately.

We are very grateful to members who take time to answer other members questions, but please do be clear in your replies that you are sharing personal experience and not giving instructions on what must be done.

Urgent Medical Advice: If you need, or think you might need, urgent medical advice you should contact a vet. If it is out of working hours phone your vet's normal number and there should be an answer phone message with instructions on what to do.

For the rabbit pshycologists out there - help with King's reaction my return!

Alleycat

Alpha Buck
Just got back from a 7 day absence during which both bunnies have been fed and watered regularly. While my long-term resident Sharik responds to such absences by being extremely grumpy and unapproachable for a day or so, I'm a bit worried about King's reaction.

When I put him back into his cage (he jumped in himself to eat) he went completely ballistic and started running and jumping around, making a complete mess and chewing the bars to get out. While this second bit is not unusual, he appeared really, really stressed, but when I let him out, he seemed to calm down, and binkied around the living room. While he has been eating in my absence, he also seemed to go mental with the food when I was watching and eating like there is no more food to be had ever, but whereas if I leave, he just retreats behind the armchair, only to emerge again and start eating and binkying when I come back and sit down.

Has he just missed the safety and loving company of his human, or could there be something else that is stressing him out?

I'm not sure sorry, how is he now? I hope some one more knowledgeable comes along soon
