Please keep in mind that posts on this forum are from members of the public sharing personal opinions. It is not a replacement for qualified medical advice from a veterinarian. Many illnesses share similar symptoms but require different treatments. A medical exam is necessary for an accurate diagnosis, without which appropriate treatment cannot be given.

You should always consult your vet before following any suggestions for medication or treatment you have read about. The wrong treatment could make your rabbit worse or mean your vet is unable to give the correct treatment because of drug interactions. Even non prescription drugs can do harm if given inappropriately.

Urgent Medical Advice: If you need, or think you might need, urgent medical advice you should contact a vet. If it is out of working hours phone your vet's normal number and there should be an answer phone message with instructions on what to do.

Sneezing

whitehood

Warren Veteran
Again Lucky's sneezing with wet transparent fur around his nostrils, he sneezes within 5-10 times a day ,once or twice a week.

Are there any methods to determine what it is ?
C&S is an option however it only tells you a bacteria present, I don't know if it's snuffles it could be something else.

It might be snuffles so I would take him to the vet. Equally it could be hay dust but its always better to get these things checked out to be on the safe side.

When we took Poppy because of her sneezing I was dreading snuffles, but the vet said it's an allergy. So we frequently hoover around/in her area in the bedroom and she only sneezes maybe 3 times a week and they are very small and quiet sneezes whereas before it was full on sneeze with horrible squeaky noises too

How would you know for sure it's snuffles or an allergy

She had no discharge or any proper symptoms apart from the sneezing. We did the frequent clean ups and it changed almost immedietly, if she ever started sneezing like she did I would take her back straight away because then I know it wouldn't be the allergy.

Does anyone know what blood tests do ? And show ?

They test the blood :)

Normally for elevated white blood cell count, which indicates an infection along with many other things - however, you can get several different types of blood test, which just confuses matters even more - eg, Ginger has a blood test for Kidney function, that a regular blood for normal investigation doesnt pick up on as its not something thats 'tested'.

They would show many different things, but may not show anything to do with a 'snuffles' infection.

Thanks, that's helped me understand.
Lucky's discharge doesn't get thick, or lots and lots of it doesn't come out.
However I still want it gone.
So when I go to our vets in may for his vhd booster I'll discuss it.

It its chronic (eg, longstanding) they may want to put off his VHD jab  just so you are aware and ready for that as boosters put a strain on the immune system and if the immune system is already taking a hammering from any RTI then its not a great idea to add additional strain to that.

That is why some people, such as myself, have a bun who is unable to be vaccinated :)

Hope this helps?

Thanks it does help.
When I took lucky to the vets for his myxo booster, we discussed if it was beneficial vaccinating him.
And the vet agreed he could have it.
But I'll ask for their opinion again when going for his vhd.

Lucky may just be one of those buns who has a VERY sensitive nose and the slightest thing can trigger it. It may not be a condition that can be 'fixed' but just lived with.

Obviously, only a vet can confirm that :)

Big Christmassy Vibes for Lucky

titus-lion has similar problems with a sensitive nose. She gets irritated easily and is at her most noticeable when she has her nose buried in her hay. Its mainly dust sensitivity and apart from getting annoyed by the sneezing, she has no other symptoms apart from ocassional discharge when she does.

Lucky also has no other symptoms spart from clear discharge around his nose when he sneezes (from both nostrils)
He sneezed about 10-15 times yesterday. Sometimes he sneezes whilst his head is buried under hay, when he's lying down on the sofa or when he's sitting on our dining chair.
