  • Please Note - Medical Advice

Please keep in mind that posts on this forum are from members of the public sharing personal opinions. It is not a replacement for qualified medical advice from a veterinarian. Many illnesses share similar symptoms but require different treatments. A medical exam is necessary for an accurate diagnosis, without which appropriate treatment cannot be given.

You should always consult your vet before following any suggestions for medication or treatment you have read about. The wrong treatment could make your rabbit worse or mean your vet is unable to give the correct treatment because of drug interactions. Even non prescription drugs can do harm if given inappropriately.

We are very grateful to members who take time to answer other members questions, but please do be clear in your replies that you are sharing personal experience and not giving instructions on what must be done.

Urgent Medical Advice: If you need, or think you might need, urgent medical advice you should contact a vet. If it is out of working hours phone your vet's normal number and there should be an answer phone message with instructions on what to do.

Honking and sneezing when breathing.

I am 100% sure it's not hormone related. No other symptoms just a wheezy noise, which seems to 'catch' and turns into a honk and then theres been 3 sneezes in the past 40 minutes.

Any ideas as to what it could be? Obviously I'll be getting to the vets ASAP.

How is the Rabbit within him/herself ?

Need a bit more info please- Increased respiratory rate/effort ? Nasal discharge ? Recently eaten ? Drooling/excessive salivation ?

Seems fine. Hoping around, inquisitive. No discharge. Had a munch on some hay. Cleaning herself as normal. Just the breathing seems a bit wheezy when you stick your ear up nice and close.

:?

This may seem like a daft explanation but she is now sat in the corner. I turned the tv off so I could hear her properly and it sounds as if someone is moving furniture in a room above me or next door. So everytime she breaths in it sounds like someone is shifting a piece of furniture, very quick sharp bursts of noise. She also seems to be shaking her head a bit more than normal. :(

It may be a Respiratory Tract infection so I would definitely get her to a Vet tomorrow morning. Often ear infections occur in Rabbits with an RTI, that could explain the head shaking.

But really it is impossible to say for sure without examining her xx
