  • Please Note - Medical Advice

Please keep in mind that posts on this forum are from members of the public sharing personal opinions. It is not a replacement for qualified medical advice from a veterinarian. Many illnesses share similar symptoms but require different treatments. A medical exam is necessary for an accurate diagnosis, without which appropriate treatment cannot be given.

You should always consult your vet before following any suggestions for medication or treatment you have read about. The wrong treatment could make your rabbit worse or mean your vet is unable to give the correct treatment because of drug interactions. Even non prescription drugs can do harm if given inappropriately.

We are very grateful to members who take time to answer other members questions, but please do be clear in your replies that you are sharing personal experience and not giving instructions on what must be done.

Urgent Medical Advice: If you need, or think you might need, urgent medical advice you should contact a vet. If it is out of working hours phone your vet's normal number and there should be an answer phone message with instructions on what to do.

mini lop weight

hot cross bun

Alpha Buck
my 24wk old mini lop is 1.6kg she has a lovely thick winter coat and is the biggest rabbit out of my 4but she is the oldest, when she was spayed my rabbit savvy vet didnt mention her weight but when i took her for her vhd my local vet said she was over weight, what should she weight for her age and i thouhgt they bulked up abit for the winter?

My vet says my rabbit is underweight at 1.4kg (if I remember correctly) when I took her for her VHD. I can feel her spine and bones but she eats well and doesn't look skinny (besides one angle where I thougth she was but now convinced otherwise) ...

So am slightly confused lol.

she doesnt look skinny alittle bit chunky but i thought it was winter fluff and extra bulk to keep her warm yep confused too?:?

Weight alone isn't a very good indicator because mini lops (or any other breed) can vary in size and aren't always true to the show standard weights. :) Alfie and Bubbles are both minis but Alfie is around 1.6kg and Bubbles is only 1.3kg but both are the right build. You should be able to feel the ribs and spine but they shouldn't be overly prominent.

There is some very good info here to help you determine whether your bunny is an appropriate size for her build. http://www.therabbithouse.com/diet/rabbit-weight.asp

There is also this link, posted by the RWAF a short while ago, which might be of help. http://www.pfma.org.uk/petometer.html :)

Thank you for those links Karen.

According to the photos, my bun is okay - I am paranoid she is too skinny, but it looks like she is ideal.
