Please keep in mind that posts on this forum are from members of the public sharing personal opinions. It is not a replacement for qualified medical advice from a veterinarian. Many illnesses share similar symptoms but require different treatments. A medical exam is necessary for an accurate diagnosis, without which appropriate treatment cannot be given.

You should always consult your vet before following any suggestions for medication or treatment you have read about. The wrong treatment could make your rabbit worse or mean your vet is unable to give the correct treatment because of drug interactions. Even non prescription drugs can do harm if given inappropriately.

Urgent Medical Advice: If you need, or think you might need, urgent medical advice you should contact a vet. If it is out of working hours phone your vet's normal number and there should be an answer phone message with instructions on what to do.

Blindness in one eye, the cause?

I think Rhia might've gone blind in one eye. I've had buns lose sight before but always hand in hand with a health condition. She'll be five in February & is in good health now, after recently recovering from a burst abscess & subsequent serious infection (Pasteurella & Pseudamonas) in her inner ear. Could this be related? Can you just lose your sight for no reason? :? Will obv pop her into the vets just in case xx

There are numerous possible causes including an abscess in the eye, cataracts, detached retina, EC induced lens damage.

Good luck at the Vets xx

E.C. ?

Is the eye cloudy?

No, doesn't look cloudy & there are *touch wood* no EC symptoms. It does look slightly different, maybe a little bit translucent. But it wouldn't be noticeable to someone who isn't me. In fact, she seems really healthy which is why I was a bit surprised. I dont know for sure that she has lost it, but Im fairly convinced - that sixth sense thing!

Ugh God, Hadn't even thought about another abscess. She seems really happy & healthy, although she didn't show symptoms of being poorly with her ear until she must've been in an indescribable amount of pain. Might see if I can get her in the vets tomorrow. xx

Mine has lost sight in 1 eye due to e.c and has no other symptoms. She has blue eyes, I noticed one of them had gone really dark blue, took to vets and turns out iritis, then cataracts appeared a week or so later, now she has glaucoma. So I would definitely get your bun checked. it might just be an ulcer or eye infection maybe?
