  • Please Note - Medical Advice

Please keep in mind that posts on this forum are from members of the public sharing personal opinions. It is not a replacement for qualified medical advice from a veterinarian. Many illnesses share similar symptoms but require different treatments. A medical exam is necessary for an accurate diagnosis, without which appropriate treatment cannot be given.

You should always consult your vet before following any suggestions for medication or treatment you have read about. The wrong treatment could make your rabbit worse or mean your vet is unable to give the correct treatment because of drug interactions. Even non prescription drugs can do harm if given inappropriately.

We are very grateful to members who take time to answer other members questions, but please do be clear in your replies that you are sharing personal experience and not giving instructions on what must be done.

Urgent Medical Advice: If you need, or think you might need, urgent medical advice you should contact a vet. If it is out of working hours phone your vet's normal number and there should be an answer phone message with instructions on what to do.

Further adventures in antibiotics: Marbocyl

Vita

Mama Doe
Beatrix's C&S results are through and she's going to be getting some marbocyl / marbofloxacin on Monday. This is the fourth antibiotic she has had!
Only one bacterial species was found, a pseudomonas. (Ada had two pseudomonas and a burkholderia.)

B is very well other than occasional sneezing - energetic, greedy, visibly gaining weight weekly.

Anyway, I was just wondering whether rabbits tend to like the taste of this stuff - and if there are any issues to watch out for with it.

2 of mine are on marbocyl but I just disguise it on a basil leaf or something like that :D As they'll be on it a while I got a repeat prescription for from the vet so I can buy it cheaper online.

Cheers bunslave. Are they sneezers / snufflers too?

Your buns are extremely cute, especially the one in the middle (A himalayan??)

They are snufflers :D And thank you, that's my little darling boy Munchkin the Himalayan. I love them all but he's a bit special :D

Mimi was on Marbocyl for her head tilt. It caused her to have a few excess caecotrophs but other than that she was fine.

She DID NOT enjoy the taste of it ATALL. The only way she would take it is mashed into some banana. After a week I also switched to injecting her for a few days

I've not used it with bunnies, but I've used it with several other small critters (my last vet was a huge fan of it), and it's definitely not a nice tasting one.

we've used Marbocyl . . trouble is we've used so very many different abx on Parsley I cant for the life of me recall what Marbocyl was like (and he'll nom anything . . . . so no guidance there ):lol::lol:

Nope, no Septrin. Baytril, engemycin, azithromycin (which Ada is still on), and now B is getting this one.
