Please keep in mind that posts on this forum are from members of the public sharing personal opinions. It is not a replacement for qualified medical advice from a veterinarian. Many illnesses share similar symptoms but require different treatments. A medical exam is necessary for an accurate diagnosis, without which appropriate treatment cannot be given.

You should always consult your vet before following any suggestions for medication or treatment you have read about. The wrong treatment could make your rabbit worse or mean your vet is unable to give the correct treatment because of drug interactions. Even non prescription drugs can do harm if given inappropriately.

Urgent Medical Advice: If you need, or think you might need, urgent medical advice you should contact a vet. If it is out of working hours phone your vet's normal number and there should be an answer phone message with instructions on what to do.

Nobivac VHD?

megansmummy

Mama Doe
I just booked the girls in for the VHD jabs on monday morning (Its 20 days post spay for poppy and 19 days post spay for daisy? is that long enough? im so worried that they havent been jabbed yet!) anyway I asked the receptionist what vac they used for VHD and she told me nobivac but everything online only taks about nobivac for Myxo? Has she just got it wrong? I asked as having done some research I wanted to avoid the cylap jab?

They should have been done 2 weeks after their myxo jabs but then they needed to be spayed becuase they kept humping and chasing and I was worried they would fight...so thats why I have waited untill now :) Need it done though as im worried sick they will get VHD!! :(

Nobivac is myxo only.

the 3 VHD vaccinations, are cylap (avoid!), lapinject and anivac.

I called back and its cylap that they use :? (so I checked with the vet in the next town aswell and they use cylap aswell :? ) so im waiting for a vet to ring me back to so I can ask if they will order lapinject or anivac  Im going to be known as the awkward pain in the bum bunny lady soon

Lapinject comes in vials of 5 so they may try and charge you for all 5 if you choose it, however, anivac comes in single doses so they shouldnt have a problem getting that in.

I simply wouldnt allow either of my two (although only one can be vaccd anwyay) to be given cylap - well done you :D

oh thanks for that, its useful to know...Is one better than the other? I would rather not have to pay for 5 if I can help it

I meant to say...after what I have read about the side effects I wouldnt chance giving the cylap either, fingers crossed the vet co-operates or else I will have to find somewhere else to take them!!

Ask them to use lapinject or anivac :)
My vet only uses lapinject. Because he's read the research and seen the differences for himself and he refuses to even consider using cylap because it's just too risky.
He also feels lapinject is better than anivac but that might just be his personal preference.
I would maybe ask if they would consider switching to anivac or lapinject for all customers as the reaction risk is much lower :)

Just got my bunnies vaccinated against VHD tonight :) I have always had them vaccinated against Myxo every six months but I only found out about VHD this year on here, thanks RU! :)

Our vets only used cylap, but because of us they managed to get in some anivac's from another veterinary practise in their group :D I told them that i would definitely not risk using cylap!!!

Hope your vets manage to get hold of anivac or lapinject for you! :D

Sorry I meant to update!

Our vets made a big deal about me asking for a different vaccine...the vet said she couldn't understand my problem  So I found a new vet that are a little further away but have a rabbit specialist. She said they only use annivac and won't touch cylap as the annivac is much safer :thumb: they are going saturday morning! :)

Im happy you found another vet , especially ones that use anivac :D Good luck x

Eurgh, your old vets sound a bit pants if they aren't willing to get in a different vaccine. Especially as you're paying for it anyway
Glad you found a new vets who won't go near cylap :D
It's one of my favourite things about Buckley's vet. When he went in and had his VHD done (spontaneous, we were in for a check up and the vet decided to do it there and then while we had the chance) and I asked which one he was going to use he said lapinject and spoke to me at length about the reasons why he prefers lapinject :)
