URGENT: Rabbit Savvy Vet Needed near North Ayrshire

Rogers Mum

New Kit
My rabbit really needs to see someone straight away!! If anyone can point me in the right direction?
please as our vet is not rabbit savvy and he is in such a bad way x

I think there is one in Kilmarnock, but can't remember the name. Mackenzie, Bryce and something I think, and they use the same premises as Vets Now for this area. I don't actually go there, becuase I don't drive, but it's always at the back of my mind I should change.

Mackenzie, Bryson and Marshall is the name. They have a website but I don't know how to do a link. You'll find it by googling (that's what I've just done).

thanks for the help susie bun :)
I gave them a call and asked if they had an exotic vet and they said yes but he's would look at the rabbit just exotic animals? I then said i just need a rabbit savvy vet to check over my rabbit as he is very sick and i second opinion is needed and the reply i got was i'm sure one of the vets can see him?!
I don't really want to go all the way there with poor Roger being so ill for another guessing game? I don't know what to do?!

I think 'exotic' is just the category rabbits come under. We don't think of them as 'exotic' but they are apparently not indigenous to the UK, hence the label. Ask if one of the 'exotic' vets is on duty, because you really need one of them to see Roger. If they can't help it might be worth ringing Ivy Bank in Irvine. My friend's rabbit goes there, and I once heard her say that the vet her rabbit saw one day went out of the room to check something with their small animals specialist.

that should say, he would NOT look at a rabbit just exotic animals. I will try Ivy Bank and see what they say.

Thanks for your help

I've always been quite happy with Spenser's treatment by his own vets at Village Vets, West Kilbride/Kilwinning, but I know that for special cases they refer to a rabbit specialist in Falkirk - that would obviously be too far for Roger.

My vet in Bishopbriggs is very good but that will be too far as well. I hope you get him some help.

When you ring vets ask for a vet that SPECIALISES IN RABBITS and explain that your own vet is stumped. Most vets will assume they can treat a rabbit, but asking for a specialist should help you find ones that will have a better idea of what to do.

i dont know why an exotic vet would think a rabbit as beneath him to treat :? one of the reasons they are exotics is their complex digestive system.
