Please keep in mind that posts on this forum are from members of the public sharing personal opinions. It is not a replacement for qualified medical advice from a veterinarian. Many illnesses share similar symptoms but require different treatments. A medical exam is necessary for an accurate diagnosis, without which appropriate treatment cannot be given.

You should always consult your vet before following any suggestions for medication or treatment you have read about. The wrong treatment could make your rabbit worse or mean your vet is unable to give the correct treatment because of drug interactions. Even non prescription drugs can do harm if given inappropriately.

Urgent Medical Advice: If you need, or think you might need, urgent medical advice you should contact a vet. If it is out of working hours phone your vet's normal number and there should be an answer phone message with instructions on what to do.

Blood?

Angie B

Wise Old Thumper
Hi

My girls were both spayed last Wednesday (today is day 10 post-spay) and yesterday and today I've noticed what I believe to be teeny tiny patches of what looks like blood on the newspaper - it's dried to a brown colour which I believe is blood.

Their wounds are clean and dry. They have had minor squabbles but outside the cage only (they're still house-bound) and I have had a good purposeful stroke over their bodies but can't find any lumps or bumps.

Their hocks are also fine.

Any ideas? I'm going to ring the vet tomorrow anyway to double-check they can run free in the garden as of tomorrow and will ask, but any ideas meantime? Thanks.

Some blood (If it is blood you have seen) in the urine can occur 24-48 hours after a spay, but it is very unusual after 10 days so I would definitely consult your Vet today xx

 Thanks both :)

It is blood and my daughter discovered the source - Thumper's nipped her nose (or had it nipped) as the very tip (our septum) looked bloody. It's only a bit so hopefully will heal on its own. How she's done it I have no idea, but her nose is definitely the source so I'm not worried - yet - as it will heal. I'll keep my eye on it.

Maybe it's worth getting your vet to give you baytril or something so later the wound doesn't turn into an abscess

Good idea :) I'll see how she is on Monday then decide. I think they were just getting rather bored in such a small cage but now they're back in their hutch so fingers crossed.
