To those of you who foster..

Could you tell me a little about it? Do you find the bunnies stay with you for a short period of time or do they end up staying for months/years? Do you give them the same set ups as your own bunnies? Do you get attached and end up keeping them or do you have to be very strict with yourself? Anything you can tell me about fostering I would be very grateful.

Ill answer for what I do with my rescue, but it would be best to ask more about it from the rescue you are interested in fostering for because every rescue is different :)
Since I started in the summer, I have had a rabbit for about 3 months before it was rehomed, and have also had (and still have though one is now reserved) 2 pairs, one for 4 months and the other for about 2 months.
Mine are in the same setup as my other rabbits and get treated the exact same. (there not together if thats what you mean, they just have the same kind of hutches/runs)
You do get attached, but I have managed to not keep one yet  2 of my rescues fosterers have kept thiers tho XD

I've had 6 foster buns so far. The first 3 were adopted pretty quickly. Then one was PTS , I adopted one and I still have one available for adoption. Shortest stay was a few weeks, longest is 5 months so far.

I've wanted to adopt them all! I adopted Sophie as I had a single girl looking for a partner, and Sophie is old so I thought she'd be harder to find a home for.

I have the main foster room, which is an outbuilding, and an indoor pen. My buns are separate, in shed/run set ups in the garden.

Hi! I have fostered since Feb this year and currently have numbers 11&12 here. One was pts, the only one I had fallen for enough to want to keep, and the rest have been rehomed. The shortest time I have had them is one week and the longest 5 months.

There is no telling who will be adopted quickly really and who will need longer. I manage not to hold onto them because I have been strict with myself. I desperately want to help with the number of rabbits needing homes and if I adopt two then my ability to foster disappears. The kids are also very good, they enjoy having the fosters and do their bit to help socialise them but are also thrilled when they get a new home. As long as our own rabbits are in the garden then there's no problem saying goodbye.

My fosters are in a similar hutch to my own rabbits but don't have a permanent run as yet. They go out to a run about 10am and come in around 7pm.

The main difference to my own rabbits is the amount o time you need to spend on them. They generally need some grooming, nails clipped and handling which takes time. They also have on average four vet visits each. Two for vaccs, one pre op for their neuter and one postop. If they have ongoing health problems then they will obviously be there more often. I would say in some ways, if you work then this is one of the most important things to consider, whether you have time for multiple vet visits.

It is extremely rewarding and my rabbit knowledge has increased greatly with all the different issues I have dealt with!

I am a rubbish fister mummy... so far I have fostered 7 rabbits and kept 4 of them
I have finally got a pair of rabbits reserved and they are hopefully going next weekend. And it is finally a good feeling. I love them to bits but I have tried to distance myself from them. They came to me with no names and I have kept it that way, the moment I name them they become attached. They get fed exactely the same as my other bunnies and get treated exactely the same.
I have had them at mione for 3 months now and I am surprised they have gone so quickly to be homest as they are both very nervous (but getting much better) and one is Angora x so will take a lot of grooming.
My other one I have only had for a week, and should be pretty easy to rehome as he is so friendly.

I am learning how to be a better foster and find homes for them, I have reached capacity with my own buns, and the groups they are in works well, so that is also an incentive.

Good luck with fostering, it is rteally rewarding. I can't wait for my pair to go to their new forever home
