  • Please Note - Medical Advice

Please keep in mind that posts on this forum are from members of the public sharing personal opinions. It is not a replacement for qualified medical advice from a veterinarian. Many illnesses share similar symptoms but require different treatments. A medical exam is necessary for an accurate diagnosis, without which appropriate treatment cannot be given.

You should always consult your vet before following any suggestions for medication or treatment you have read about. The wrong treatment could make your rabbit worse or mean your vet is unable to give the correct treatment because of drug interactions. Even non prescription drugs can do harm if given inappropriately.

We are very grateful to members who take time to answer other members questions, but please do be clear in your replies that you are sharing personal experience and not giving instructions on what must be done.

Urgent Medical Advice: If you need, or think you might need, urgent medical advice you should contact a vet. If it is out of working hours phone your vet's normal number and there should be an answer phone message with instructions on what to do.

Bunny Vaccines

would it be ok to postpone our rabbit Siruis's myxo and VHD for a month he due both the beginning and middle for December but due to my recent financial circumstances i wont have the money to January woul his previous vaccine cover him till them he got his VHD mid December last year and his myxo in June. He is an indoor bunny but we do have wild rabbits in our area. :?

i wouldn't take the risk to be honest but it's up to you i suppose
Ros from the rwaf has been posting loads lately about the importance of vaccines. there have been outbreaks all over the country
it's difficult financially i understand only too well :( but we have to think logically and long-term - is it cheaper to vaccinate now or take the risk and hope our buns will be safe? taking risks can be fatal but this is something only you can decide

The vaccinations don't just 'stop' working. They just lose their effectiveness over time. I can't recommend you leave it, but on the same note, i can't tell you 'it will all be okay if you dont'.

To be honest, if you genuinely can't afford it, then it's a moot point.
