Please keep in mind that posts on this forum are from members of the public sharing personal opinions. It is not a replacement for qualified medical advice from a veterinarian. Many illnesses share similar symptoms but require different treatments. A medical exam is necessary for an accurate diagnosis, without which appropriate treatment cannot be given.

You should always consult your vet before following any suggestions for medication or treatment you have read about. The wrong treatment could make your rabbit worse or mean your vet is unable to give the correct treatment because of drug interactions. Even non prescription drugs can do harm if given inappropriately.

Urgent Medical Advice: If you need, or think you might need, urgent medical advice you should contact a vet. If it is out of working hours phone your vet's normal number and there should be an answer phone message with instructions on what to do.

Spaying vibes please! - update Daisy's home

Hi

I'm taking Daisy to be spayed tomorrow. I'm sure she'll be fine - but any extra tips and advice for post spay would be great!

Thank you! I will be thinking of you and your girls too. I'm sure yours will make a quick recovery - having eachother for company is always good! Daisy is a single bun at the moment, I am going to bond her with my 2 males over xmas as I'll be off work to keep an eye on things!

Are you buns indoors or outside? x

It's always nerve wracking getting a pet spayed but at least you know it's the best thing for her in the long run. Head rub from me ;)

Ours are both outdoor so they are staying overnight Tuesday and coming back Wednesday afternoon/evening :)

Hope the bonding goes well :)

Oh right, I'm dropping Daisy off at 08.30 tomorrow morning, then assume I will be able to collect her tomorrow after work - around 6pm. I am worried that I will be at work on Tues and leaving her? I guess if she is eating and is comfortable she will be ok during the day?

I dont know much about the aftercare yet but the only thing that I though of was what about giving pain meds? she might need those through the day? Mine are only staying at the vets becuase I dont really have any indoor space to bring them in overnight after the operations :( I feel mean leaving them there though :(

I'm back with Daisy. She's understandably very quiet, but she hasn't eaten since her op :( The vets we're happier for me to keep her at home, indoors and monitor her over the night, I have metacam - but the vets said to give her this in the morning. I have tried all her fave foods, to no avail. She has drank some water from a bowl in the last half an hour though.
How long does it usually take for buns to eat after a spay? Should I be overly worried? I have food to syringe feed if necessary.

Daisy has just had a slight nibble of banana, but nothing much. Should I intervene and syringe feed her? Or maybe give her some pain relief before the morning?

I wouldn't be able to wait till morning with the pain relief, maybe if you gave her just a little bit to see if she perks up? She needs to eat :(

Daisy has barely eaten through the night, I have tried to syringe feed her but she's not been interested :( She has nibbled on a strand of hay, and had 2 small slices of banana and a very small amount of oats, probabaly around half a teaspoon.

This morning she has been sneezing, and I am quite concerned so I am off to the vets at 9.20am to see if they can give her some cisapride (gut stimulant) and see why she is sneezing.

My poor bunny, I really hope she pulls through this

Daisy is improving! :D

She had a delayed reaction from the anaesthetic and has a wheezy chest, so she is now on some Baytril to help with this. I syringe fed her some more food this morning and gave her some more pain relief and then went to work for a couple of hours. I've just come back to check on her and she has come out of hiding and is eating on her own! :D I'm so happy!
