Rabbit Savvy vet, West Yorkshire

Sparkle x

Wise Old Thumper
Found out today my rabbit vet is leaving and her replacement isnt really glued up on bunnies, im panicing now, as i currently have a poorly bunny.

Im looking for a Vet with good rabbit knowledge and not too far from Huddersfield/Brighouse/Leeds area.

Argh! How very dare your vet leave!

Good luck with finding another, there seems to be quite a few members in Yorkshire area, so hopefully you'll find a new one and Albie will be okay :)

I was going to use that vet for neutering until i found out the price :?

I have now registered Bumble with vets for pets in Wakefield (and Bee will be too) she got neutered there and i thought they were very good i like them and they seem good with bunnies

gosh they are expensive for ops! I was quoted £250 for mischief's incisor removal! I use my very local vets for ops but abbey house for vaccinations cos the vacs are cheap and they are more knowledgeable about that kind of thing there. I know it's bad to use 2 vets but I simply don't want to go to my local one for everything bunny related and abbey house is too expensive for everything. :?

Oh i am not the only one who thinks that then! I couldn't believe it when i rang them about neutering! I think my vets was good anyway

Yes it was £75 (unfortunately it ended up being a bit more as i asked for metacam and the next day i had to go back and pay for another consultation and get gut stimulant medicine) I did a lot of ringing around before i got her neutered and there was one (our normal vets known to be cheap) which was quote a bit cheaper but i'm glad i didn't got with them for the bunny even though we've got our cats and dog neutered with them. I worry more about hte bunny and they gave her a full health check and vets for pets and the people were really nice and 2 check ups it was worth it for peace of mind and more looking after her. All the other vets were that price or more expensive too either that or i didn't get a impression when i rang them that they were really into rabbits

We're in Wakefield and use Chantry Vets - the owner is called Pred (don't know his surname but then you don't need to) and he is absolutely brilliant with Ted and Rosie. I couldn't recommend him more highly. He owns 6 or 7 vets in the group and we follow him to whichever he's at - usually Outwood, Ossett, main one in Wakey or Castleford (which is the furthest away but we'd go to any of them, he's amazing) :D

Thankyou. Will look in to peoples suggestions.

I really like Abbey House, although neuters are abit pricey. Vaccinations are good prices and ive always been happy with my Vet and her work, just gutted shes leaving to be honest

Abbey house (I've used the morley one) seems good but very pricey, I took Harley in when he was bitten (it's an emergency vets) and they took him straight in before any other animal just to check he was still eating

I've also used Brighouse and Wakefield Vets 4 Pets, they seemed ok but I'm not sure how savvy they are, none of my rabbits have health problems so I don't really chat to the vets about anything like that they just go in for neuter/spays/vaccs

Abbey house vets Cleckheaton!! :D:D:D http://www.abbeyvetspets.co.uk/

I was so pleased with the amount of bunny knowlage they had ! :) Here's my thread about them: http://forums.rabbitrehome.org.uk/s...impressed-with-the-new-vets!-D&highlight=vets

Shona at Abbey Cleck is really good sadly shes leaving next week. Abbeys bunny specialist is Trudy at their Kippax branch. Harcourt Brown at Harrogate are supposed to be fab but we are in Cleckheaton and its just too far.

I am going to Shona at Abbey Cleck on Monday to start vacinations on my two bunnies, I shall quiz her on the replacement vet and let you know.

My 2 bunnies have been neutered at vets for pets wakefield. They have a plaque on the wall for small animal vet thingy (sorry I have had a couple of glasses of wine). It was £75 for spaying but that included 2 check ups. They do a £55 per year scheme for 2 x mixi and 1 x vhd plus wormers, Abbey is about £5 more and its alot nearer for us, and I trust Shona, I will really miss her.

But Abbey Morley were fab when Biscuit needed to be pts but when I took Tommy I was very disapointed in the vet, she couldnt even hold him properly and told us syringing was a doddle when we said we were struggling, her attempt got exactly zero into him. We lost him that day and I do wonder if it was because he was so very ill or if we had a non bunny savvy vet.

I went to Abbey House at Morley once as they are my emergency vet. I was very impressed with the lady who saw Truffle - she seemed very knowledgeable, despite her saying she was interested in rabbits but not a specialist.

We use Tweed House in Pudsey - they've been fine so far, but then I've never had anything complex to deal with. They do a vac for life for £85 per pet, which makes it very good value for us (though I believe they are generally considered expensive).

They charged £92 for a spay when ours were done a couple of years ago, and actually gave us a big discount off the two of them as they were small and basically only needed one set of whatever drugs they use between the two of them.
