  • Please Note - Medical Advice

Please keep in mind that posts on this forum are from members of the public sharing personal opinions. It is not a replacement for qualified medical advice from a veterinarian. Many illnesses share similar symptoms but require different treatments. A medical exam is necessary for an accurate diagnosis, without which appropriate treatment cannot be given.

You should always consult your vet before following any suggestions for medication or treatment you have read about. The wrong treatment could make your rabbit worse or mean your vet is unable to give the correct treatment because of drug interactions. Even non prescription drugs can do harm if given inappropriately.

We are very grateful to members who take time to answer other members questions, but please do be clear in your replies that you are sharing personal experience and not giving instructions on what must be done.

Urgent Medical Advice: If you need, or think you might need, urgent medical advice you should contact a vet. If it is out of working hours phone your vet's normal number and there should be an answer phone message with instructions on what to do.

Any advice for Alice please

I have posted before about my seriously ill bunny Alice who has recurrent gut disorder and liver problems.

Today, Alice is going through an episode of stasis. I am in phone contact with vet who have told me to continue with what I am doing for now.
She has had 3 drops metacam, metaclopramide, ranatidine all at separate times. She is not eating pellets but is still eating some hay, readigrass, parsley and basil. She is still going to her water bowl. Her droppings are soft and runny or small and hard at the moment. I am also giving her rehydration fluid and recovery food.

My main concern is managing her pain. Even with the metacam, she is grinding her teeth from time to time. I know that if we can't get on top of things this time, there are not any other options left. I think her liver function has improved. She has put on weight and is not drinking all the time.

I will obviously take her to the vets later if her pain level doesn't improve or if she deteriorates further.

I know it is unlikely people can help but I feel better for writing it down! I have been nursing Alice for about 7 months.
