Please keep in mind that posts on this forum are from members of the public sharing personal opinions. It is not a replacement for qualified medical advice from a veterinarian. Many illnesses share similar symptoms but require different treatments. A medical exam is necessary for an accurate diagnosis, without which appropriate treatment cannot be given.

You should always consult your vet before following any suggestions for medication or treatment you have read about. The wrong treatment could make your rabbit worse or mean your vet is unable to give the correct treatment because of drug interactions. Even non prescription drugs can do harm if given inappropriately.

URGENT ADVICE NEEDED~ Head-tilt, suspected E.C.

Hi everyone, I also posted about two weeks ago about my head-tilt, baby bunny called Yoda. Last time I posted he was rolling constantly with constant eye flicking. After 4 days he was back to normal with a slight residual tilt… However in the last two hours he’s gone back to his previous rolling state and I’m at a complete loss as what to do now. He’s got a vet appointment tomorrow morning but I’m wondering if anyone’s got a few ideas as to why this might have happened?

He was on .01 dose of steroids for 5 days twice daily, then .01 once daily for another 5. (The last day for this one was about a 5-6 days ago)
He’s still on panacur .08 dose twice daily.

And he was on enrotril oral solution 0.4 dose once daily. But this ran out two days ago. Could this possibly have something to do with his relapse? My understanding was that it’s an umbrella treatment that’s anti-bacterial. But if this is what’s helping him, wouldn't this suggest that it’s perhaps it’s not EC as previously thought??
Thank you for any help :)

I suspect it may be a middle ear infection rather than EC. The antibiotic was obviously addressing the bacterial infection, but did not fully eradicate it.

I would get him back to the Vet this morning to discuss more treatment. Possibly a different antibiotic such as Depoillin (BY INJECTION ONLY) or Zithromax.

I would not want him to have more steroids as whilst they are good anti-inflammatories they can seriously impact on the Rabbits immune system. The last think needed if fighting a bacterial infection. A non steroidal anti inflammatory such as Metacam (generic name Meloxicam) can be given.

Good luck

That's one of the things I suspected it could be. However, his ears have been checked on serveral occassions and have appeared healthy and clean.. I'm aware about the steriods but the specialist that I've been taking him to said that such a small dose for such a short period of time won't effect his immune system. Hopefully he's right about that.
