  • Please Note - Medical Advice

Please keep in mind that posts on this forum are from members of the public sharing personal opinions. It is not a replacement for qualified medical advice from a veterinarian. Many illnesses share similar symptoms but require different treatments. A medical exam is necessary for an accurate diagnosis, without which appropriate treatment cannot be given.

You should always consult your vet before following any suggestions for medication or treatment you have read about. The wrong treatment could make your rabbit worse or mean your vet is unable to give the correct treatment because of drug interactions. Even non prescription drugs can do harm if given inappropriately.

We are very grateful to members who take time to answer other members questions, but please do be clear in your replies that you are sharing personal experience and not giving instructions on what must be done.

Urgent Medical Advice: If you need, or think you might need, urgent medical advice you should contact a vet. If it is out of working hours phone your vet's normal number and there should be an answer phone message with instructions on what to do.

Elf is limping

and we don't know why... metacam helps, so the vet has said to keep him on it for 5 days to see what happens. There's no splinter/inflammation and she doesn't think he's broken anything. We'll x-ray if there's no improvement. Any thoughts?

Thank you both.

Front leg. Slight weight loss but well within his normal range. Still eating. No recent injections/excessive drinking....

Thank you. He's just turned three. I did wonder about arthritis - what would be the treatment if it were that? It seems to be confined to his middle toe.

I think (and im no expert by any means) that it starts with daily metacam, to help with pain and inflamation, but there are other meds, such as arthi-aid and glucosamine i think it is, but certainly discuss it with a rabbit savvy vet

Ah thank you. He's on a five day metacam stint now so that may be the way she's going. He sees her again Monday

Excellent :D

It may take a few days i'd guess for it to improve (certainly the inflmation anyway) but i really really hope it helps Elf!
