  • Please Note - Medical Advice

Please keep in mind that posts on this forum are from members of the public sharing personal opinions. It is not a replacement for qualified medical advice from a veterinarian. Many illnesses share similar symptoms but require different treatments. A medical exam is necessary for an accurate diagnosis, without which appropriate treatment cannot be given.

You should always consult your vet before following any suggestions for medication or treatment you have read about. The wrong treatment could make your rabbit worse or mean your vet is unable to give the correct treatment because of drug interactions. Even non prescription drugs can do harm if given inappropriately.

We are very grateful to members who take time to answer other members questions, but please do be clear in your replies that you are sharing personal experience and not giving instructions on what must be done.

Urgent Medical Advice: If you need, or think you might need, urgent medical advice you should contact a vet. If it is out of working hours phone your vet's normal number and there should be an answer phone message with instructions on what to do.

I dont need a vet I just want to be prepared. Who would you recommend?

Ive recently spent a lot of time at my vets and while I do trust them with my cats I am slightly cautious about how rabbit savvy they are...

I have been told about Harcourt Brown in Harrogate who are rabbit specialists but that a good hour from us.

We are halfway between Wakefield and Bradford and Leeds, I currently use Abbey House and as I say I have no major issues but just wonder if theres a local rabbit savvy vet near me.

My local vets for pets are offering £55 for vhd x 1 and mixi x2, then free pancur wormer for a year which seems good. My 2 new rescue buns have just been neutered there but I dont know how good they are.

Thank you.

rabbits come under the exotic pet so you need to find a exotic vet as i have just found out, my normal vet wanted to pts my bun but i refused and found a new vet who is a exotic vet and my bun is on the mend

Ooh hello I'm halfway between Wakefield/Leeds too, I've only been to Abbey house once for an emergency (they're closest and are a 24 hour emergency vets which is lucky) and they seemed quite rabbit savvy (although very expensive). If any of your rabbits have ongoing (or serious) health problems/conditions I'd definately go to Harcourt Brown but if it's just for vaccs and health checks I'd stick to your a local one :) I use a different vet everytime mine have to go and all have seemed fine with the rabbits
