  • Please Note - Medical Advice

Please keep in mind that posts on this forum are from members of the public sharing personal opinions. It is not a replacement for qualified medical advice from a veterinarian. Many illnesses share similar symptoms but require different treatments. A medical exam is necessary for an accurate diagnosis, without which appropriate treatment cannot be given.

You should always consult your vet before following any suggestions for medication or treatment you have read about. The wrong treatment could make your rabbit worse or mean your vet is unable to give the correct treatment because of drug interactions. Even non prescription drugs can do harm if given inappropriately.

We are very grateful to members who take time to answer other members questions, but please do be clear in your replies that you are sharing personal experience and not giving instructions on what must be done.

Urgent Medical Advice: If you need, or think you might need, urgent medical advice you should contact a vet. If it is out of working hours phone your vet's normal number and there should be an answer phone message with instructions on what to do.

wet nose and respiratory infection

Young Bun
hi all

My rabbit seemed normal this morning eating and playing with my feet and then when she was running I heard wheezing coming from her so went to the vet and she has a wet nose and a upper respiratory infection and put her on 0.3 of baytril twice a day,
now she is on medication should she stay bright and lively or might she go downhill and she was fine yesterday no wet nose

It is impossible to say how things will pan out as every case is different. The fact that you took prompt action and went straight to the Vet is great and hopefully the antibiotics will clear the infection.

Some Rabbits can go off their food when on antibiotics, often on day 3-4 of treatment. But this is by no means inevitable, just something to watch out for along with any changes in poo output. If you notice any changes then I'd contact the Vet again for specific advice :)

ok thank you I have another appointment in 10 days just so the vet can check on her

Sorry to hear your bun isn't very well.

I hope the baytril does the job. My bun is suddering from the same at the moment and is now on 0.5ml twice a day for 3 weeks plus 0.1ml metacam once a day.

Fingers crossed, let us know how your bun gets on xxx
