  • Please Note - Medical Advice

Please keep in mind that posts on this forum are from members of the public sharing personal opinions. It is not a replacement for qualified medical advice from a veterinarian. Many illnesses share similar symptoms but require different treatments. A medical exam is necessary for an accurate diagnosis, without which appropriate treatment cannot be given.

You should always consult your vet before following any suggestions for medication or treatment you have read about. The wrong treatment could make your rabbit worse or mean your vet is unable to give the correct treatment because of drug interactions. Even non prescription drugs can do harm if given inappropriately.

We are very grateful to members who take time to answer other members questions, but please do be clear in your replies that you are sharing personal experience and not giving instructions on what must be done.

Urgent Medical Advice: If you need, or think you might need, urgent medical advice you should contact a vet. If it is out of working hours phone your vet's normal number and there should be an answer phone message with instructions on what to do.

Spreading diseases question

So im going to centreparces in dec which is full of wild rabbits! and obviously some sadly have diseases, mynxi/VHD etc, is it possible to bring the diseases back home, on footwear/clothing etc?

im guessing not as wildies live everywhere so most people would have walked near or where they are at some point x

VHD can be transmitted in theory via clothing etc, but as long as a bun is vaccinated, you're taking all the precautions necessary.

If you want to be extra careful, change before you come into contact with the buns when you get home

I'm also going to center parcs next year and won't worry about it.

I suppose it is technically possibly but highly highly unlikely and as you say you are just as much at risk walking in the fields near your home

Yes, it is possible, most likely on your shoes I would have thought, but as long as your rabbits are vaccinated they will be fine.

their not vaccinated yet (hides and waits for lecture) I will get them done soon I promise!

I live near the country and haven't had a problem, and i will change clothes etc first
