Please keep in mind that posts on this forum are from members of the public sharing personal opinions. It is not a replacement for qualified medical advice from a veterinarian. Many illnesses share similar symptoms but require different treatments. A medical exam is necessary for an accurate diagnosis, without which appropriate treatment cannot be given.

You should always consult your vet before following any suggestions for medication or treatment you have read about. The wrong treatment could make your rabbit worse or mean your vet is unable to give the correct treatment because of drug interactions. Even non prescription drugs can do harm if given inappropriately.

Urgent Medical Advice: If you need, or think you might need, urgent medical advice you should contact a vet. If it is out of working hours phone your vet's normal number and there should be an answer phone message with instructions on what to do.

What does buzzing sound like

New Kit
Hi,

My male rabbit, about thirty weeks old makes a wheezing type noise when he walks or runs, he is very active and when he sprints around does not slow him down and appears fine in every other way. I am not sure if he has some sort of chest infection but having done some research here and there are some references to buzzing and wondered if it might be this??

Before Dillon had his neuter he used to do a little buzzing noise like you describe when he would run to me when it was feeding time or you were showing him a treat, it was just a noise he did when getting excited and the vets said it was to do with his hormones and his chest is fine. Might be similar for your bun.

My bunny benjamin does this when he wants attention from his partner scarlett , even though they have both been neutered, I used to think it was a pre neuter noise, but now think its a "happy" noise!!

Thank you both, I now fairly confident it is buzzing but when he next goes to the vet I will get them to double check to be 100%, first time we have had a male rabbit.

Does he do it at particular times, or whenever he runs. Like does he make the noise when running for food, but not when just running about. Beau's buzz is a happy noise, so he only does it when there's food, or when OH is walking around (he loves OH!).

p.s. is your username related to your bunny? We call Beau monks as a nickname, short for monkey
