  • Please Note - Medical Advice

Please keep in mind that posts on this forum are from members of the public sharing personal opinions. It is not a replacement for qualified medical advice from a veterinarian. Many illnesses share similar symptoms but require different treatments. A medical exam is necessary for an accurate diagnosis, without which appropriate treatment cannot be given.

You should always consult your vet before following any suggestions for medication or treatment you have read about. The wrong treatment could make your rabbit worse or mean your vet is unable to give the correct treatment because of drug interactions. Even non prescription drugs can do harm if given inappropriately.

We are very grateful to members who take time to answer other members questions, but please do be clear in your replies that you are sharing personal experience and not giving instructions on what must be done.

Urgent Medical Advice: If you need, or think you might need, urgent medical advice you should contact a vet. If it is out of working hours phone your vet's normal number and there should be an answer phone message with instructions on what to do.

Yet another question about poo...

I noticed Mistys poo were wet looking and were quite sticky and not sure if this is normal or if she has a tummy upset.

Anytime ive seen her poo's they have been dry and hard.

I dont think its the ones she is meant to eat

If it's true diarrhoea and watery then it's an emergency and she needs a vet asap.

It sounds more like a cecal upset though. Sometimes their cecals can get all mushy and 'wrong', sometimes it's called mucky bum or cow pat. It's usually to do with too much rich food and not enough hay. Does she eat plenty of hay? How much dry food do you feed?

Sometimes it can also be health related (for example, something stopping them eating their cecals like arthritis or teeth problems) so a chat with a vet is also wise. :)

she gets an egg cup full of pellets. She has done some since my post and they seem harder and dry

It tends to be somehting that comes and goes. Does she eat plenty of hay? The rough guide is a pile about the size of their body, but more is better.

Also what pellets do you feed? Excel is a bit notorious about being a bit too rich for some rabbits. Don't do any change suddenly though.

she's on wag.

we use hay as her bedding and she also gets loads of hay seperatley. She gets new hay everyday and they hay as her bedding is changed regularly.

Her poo's seem ok today. One thing i was thinking was ive never seen her eat her poos :?

That's good. The other thing we found upset Mini's tum was certain veg, especially sweet things like carrot, baby corn, peapods and fruit.

You don't normally see them eating their cecals, they usually eat them straight from their bum and usually during the night. Often the tell tale sign is them bent double, head down and then sitting up as normal munching.
