Many illnesses share similar symptoms but require different treatments. A medical exam is necessary for an accurate diagnosis, without which appropriate treatment cannot be given.

You should always consult your vet before following any suggestions for medication or treatment you have read about. The wrong treatment could make your rabbit worse or mean your vet is unable to give the correct treatment because of drug interactions. Even non prescription drugs can do harm if given inappropriately.

Panacur - preventative treatment

Rykat

Mama Doe
I have a 5 month rabbit that was on Septrin for a very mild case of Coccidia, this is now gone and vets said I'm ok to start Panacur but advised only doing it for 9 days, but I'm thinking a one-off 28 day course just to be sure?

When I brought her home she went into the lounge for quarrantine and I want to move her to the bunservatory asap. She has no active symptoms, bright, alert, eating well etc but should I wait until she's finished treatment even though she won't share floor space/anything with them?

I know there are loads of threads here about EC and Panacur but couldn't find the right answer to this, apologies :)

Also, I have 2.5% panacur and tried to work out dosage last night, she's 3.5kgs so we think 2ml? :?

Thanks

Crikey she has put some weight on hasn't she that's great. Is it the tubes with the segments that you have?

I would normally do a twenty eight day course for new rabbits coming here and it won't do any harm to give it. After that, only use it for EC etc because overusing workers can cause the rabbits !well the worms really, become resistan. I hope she is ok and you're enjoying having her.

Thanks both :)

Have the liquid but couldn't get the 10% variety.

She's such a little sweetheart, no agression at all so that was all nonsense, even though her hormones are starting to take over, she's still so very affectionate

Will start the 28 day treatment tonight. Can I move her out now as not sharing any communal space etc? Be nice to get lounge back

I've never used the liquid sorry I think Jane has it might be worth asking her.

I would think she would be ok being moved now

I think if you are going to do a course of Panacur then it is probably better to do 28 days.

She will need to be kept from sharing ground space with other Rabbits whilst she is on treatment.

The dose rate for the 2.5% Panacur is 0.8ml/kg so she would need 2.8ml :)

Thank you Jane :D. I mixed up her weight (didn't exclude carrier!) so she's actually 2.8kgs
