What vacuum cleaner for all that hay etc?

My hoover has broken down again - possibly my fault for not changing the bag soon enough - tho I was knackered & not well. But I realised it's probably not the right sort to handle all that hay. Its bag is tiny, for starters; I got it when I lived in a 1-bed flat.

The bunnies are now spending more time running around free, taking bits of hay with them, and I feel like hoovering up after them at least every other day.

Is it better to buy really cheap hoovers and run them into the ground, or are there better quality models (though preferably not as pricey as Dysons) that will deal with bunny debris?

I just have a cheapo bagless one. Been fine for me so far, occassionally jams with hay, but easy to unblock.

I use a shop vac, but I have to pick up all the hay first because the hose part clogs easily with hay.

I have this and it is FANTASTIC. At 360 air watts it is more powerful than dysons. Its capacity isnt huge, it needs to be emptied after the bunny room but it is the best hoover I've had. http://www.currys.co.uk/gbuk/samsung-vcc4370-bagless-vacuum-cleaner-05318944-pdt.html

Samsung do another with bigger capacity and a brush bar, same power. Not sure if the brush bar is a good or bad thing with hay. It will pick it up easier but it might get stuck round the brush bar. http://www.currys.co.uk/gbuk/samsung-vcc8442v-bagless-cylinder-vacuum-cleaner-01566045-pdt.html

eta - Also, when I asked on here I was reccommended a Henry by most people. I borrowed a George (commercial wet and dry henry) but the bit where the dirt goes into the bag used to clog way more often than my samsung does. But Henrys are pretty much indestructible, so a good buy.

Bear in mind using it for hay/bedding will void your manufacturers warranty. Some shops' extended warranties if they include accidental damage will cover it.

Oh, fantastic! Thanks very much again Nessar.
The second one is the same price as my current hoover was several years ago - and it looks small and compact enough to deal with narrow stairs too, tho I'd best find out its measurements from Currys. A Henry would overbalance on my stairs.

This is one expense that never even crossed my mind with bunnies!

Just managed to get the second one for £63.50 with free delivery. :)

Dyson 'DC33' Stubborn:D

Occasionally blocks with hay but only when i don't open the top to empty it soon enough and let it overfill.

It has arrived. In the end I got an even cheaper one from eBay, same model. I wouldn't recommend the seller, but the vacuum is working well even if it is a bit scratched on the outside. It's easier to use on the stone kitchen floor than the old Morphy Richards was and is picking up hay easily plus a whole lot of other gunk and dust - rather fascinating being able to see everything in the canister. Was amazed how much came out of the hall carpet alone.

I have been through tons of hoovers (had a track record of one every 3-6 months:shock: ) I had pet hair ones (£150+) and cheap ones (£30) in desperation I bought a Miele hoover and I am delighted to say it has lasted me 5 years and still going strong. Its bagged, but the bags last ages and it has great suction:thumb: Would only ever buy Miele from now on:p
