  • Please Note - Medical Advice

Please keep in mind that posts on this forum are from members of the public sharing personal opinions. It is not a replacement for qualified medical advice from a veterinarian. Many illnesses share similar symptoms but require different treatments. A medical exam is necessary for an accurate diagnosis, without which appropriate treatment cannot be given.

You should always consult your vet before following any suggestions for medication or treatment you have read about. The wrong treatment could make your rabbit worse or mean your vet is unable to give the correct treatment because of drug interactions. Even non prescription drugs can do harm if given inappropriately.

We are very grateful to members who take time to answer other members questions, but please do be clear in your replies that you are sharing personal experience and not giving instructions on what must be done.

Urgent Medical Advice: If you need, or think you might need, urgent medical advice you should contact a vet. If it is out of working hours phone your vet's normal number and there should be an answer phone message with instructions on what to do.

Kane is off to the vet tonight but I just wondered if anyone could give me the benefit of their experience please.
Yesterday morning breakfast as usual - dried herbs with some fresh herbs on top. Both bouncing around as usual and tucked in. Let them out for morning free ranging. All as usual, checking every few minutes as I normally do. nothing seemed out of the ordinary. they had a good hour out by themselves then I went out to start big hutch clean up and Kane was upstairs stretched out and looking miserable. He saw me and ran downstairs and hunched in the corner. Got him out and he refused fresh coriander and parsley. Gave him some metacam and some infacol. 2 hours later still the same so i gave him a tiny bit of zantac. Still no change so left them quietly as they usually snooze during the day. frequent checks and he still looked miserable. Then by 3pm he was bouncing about again and ate some fresh dandelion, grass and groundsel I had managed to find. Free ranging last night he seemed back to normal, eating hay etc aswell and they shot into bed at 10pm munching on their usual greens, a bit of chopped celery and yellow pepper. This morning he ate his carrot biscuit from me but then didnt come downstairs for the herbs. I managed to find a few more dandelion and plantain leaves and he had those but he wasn't interested in the dried herbs or the other veg. Gave him some more metacam and some more zantac and they went into their day run but I have had to come to work.
Any ideas - is he building up to a big episode of stasis :(?
what else can/should I try?

It's good you have a vets appointment :) I would make sure the vet checks his teeth with an otoscope (the same thing docs look in your ear with) incluidng looking right into his mouth and checking his molars.

I would make sure the vet checks how his tummy feels and has a good feel of his abdomen.

Good luck :) I hope your vet can figure out what is going on. With such a general and common symptom it can be difficult to suggest something specific.
