Please keep in mind that posts on this forum are from members of the public sharing personal opinions. It is not a replacement for qualified medical advice from a veterinarian. Many illnesses share similar symptoms but require different treatments. A medical exam is necessary for an accurate diagnosis, without which appropriate treatment cannot be given.

You should always consult your vet before following any suggestions for medication or treatment you have read about. The wrong treatment could make your rabbit worse or mean your vet is unable to give the correct treatment because of drug interactions. Even non prescription drugs can do harm if given inappropriately.

We are very grateful to members who take time to answer other members questions, but please do be clear in your replies that you are sharing personal experience and not giving instructions on what must be done.

Urgent Medical Advice: If you need, or think you might need, urgent medical advice you should contact a vet. If it is out of working hours phone your vet's normal number and there should be an answer phone message with instructions on what to do.

Worms!

Fayelou

Alpha Buck
Well, poor Simba has just finished her baytril course for sneezing (and is still sneezing, though improved massively) and is very happy in herself.

Now I have noticed tiny white wriggly worms in her poo and a couple on her bottom which I have been trying to wipe away

I have been told some Panacur from Pets at Home will sort this.

Is this right? Worried again. I have only had her since August and it seems like one thing after another

I would and do use Panacur if mine have worms (these sound like Pinworms). You can buy the Panacur Rabbit paste from many places and if you're worried then getting a vet check is sensible :)

Thanks for being so helpful as always Sky.

Will she be ok until tomorrow? Do rabbits get worms alot? She must have just got them today! As last night she poo'd alot on my sofa and I would have noticed lol xxx

They tend to come out in the mornings. We've had them a few times here, and had a few bunnies arrive with them too. I think they probably are common and I often wonder if most rabbits have them but their immune system keeps them mostly in check, and then those bunnies with immune system issues may find they get them properly and need treating (but then I have had many immuno suppressed buns also not get them, so not sure whether or not that is true, it was just a wonderment).

Yes, I'm sure she will be fine until tomorrow if she is passing them out although, if you have any concerns with her behaviours, appetite or anything, then, as always, check with a vet :). They will take about 3 days after starting the Panacur to die and you might see them come out brown and dead (nice ).

Her bum was a bit runny this morning, but I put it down to a bit too much carrot yesterday :D and she is passing poos fine now, nice normal sized round ones but with these horrid worms! The harder the poos are getting the less you seem to see the worms now, but will get her some panacur tomorrow and hopefully that'll be the end of it! She is binkying and eating loads of hay so doesn't seem to be bothering her :)

She got some new timothy hay from hay for pets, I am so pleased with it. Such a difference to pet shop hay.

She got a couple of new toys as well, spoilt madam! x
