Please keep in mind that posts on this forum are from members of the public sharing personal opinions. It is not a replacement for qualified medical advice from a veterinarian. Many illnesses share similar symptoms but require different treatments. A medical exam is necessary for an accurate diagnosis, without which appropriate treatment cannot be given.

You should always consult your vet before following any suggestions for medication or treatment you have read about. The wrong treatment could make your rabbit worse or mean your vet is unable to give the correct treatment because of drug interactions. Even non prescription drugs can do harm if given inappropriately.

Urgent Medical Advice: If you need, or think you might need, urgent medical advice you should contact a vet. If it is out of working hours phone your vet's normal number and there should be an answer phone message with instructions on what to do.

Bunny Gnawing

Stumpy

Alpha Buck
hi everyone,

I have many things in whiskys hutch that she can gnaw on but she is gnawing the hutch and i don't know how to stop her  Im glad she is keeping her teeth down but i dont have the money to replace or mend the hutch. what can i do?

Sadly, bunnies do seem to chew the things they shouldn't in preference to the things they should. What size accommodation does she have? Is she spayed? If she is, could you get her a friend?

Likely she is bored and trying to entertain herself.

Those problems up there will likely help look at the root cause, but as a short term measure you could maybe get some mesh and carefully wrap it round the inside (being careful of any sharp bits) so that she can't get to the wood.

Thank you for your reply. This is the hutch size and shape.

What can I do to cure the boredom other than another bunny as she isnt spayed yet.

I wonder if there is a way to safely permanently attach a run to it as well so that when she is most active (which is at dawn and dusk) she can get out into the run for a runaround. Is tha likely to be feasible?

(PS, she's exceptionally cute!)

My buns love the 8 n 1 ecotrition Snak Shak logs & will spend hours happily gnawing on them. They costs around £8 for a large one. I first got one because I had a dental bun & it reduced the amount of times she needed her teeth clipping. Pets at Home sell a different make which arent as hard but will do if I cant buy them oline at a decent price

You can buy metal cornering from DIY shops and attach that to the edges to stop the chewing.

Oh interesting, where do you usually get them from in the UK?
