Please keep in mind that posts on this forum are from members of the public sharing personal opinions. It is not a replacement for qualified medical advice from a veterinarian. Many illnesses share similar symptoms but require different treatments. A medical exam is necessary for an accurate diagnosis, without which appropriate treatment cannot be given.

You should always consult your vet before following any suggestions for medication or treatment you have read about. The wrong treatment could make your rabbit worse or mean your vet is unable to give the correct treatment because of drug interactions. Even non prescription drugs can do harm if given inappropriately.

Urgent Medical Advice: If you need, or think you might need, urgent medical advice you should contact a vet. If it is out of working hours phone your vet's normal number and there should be an answer phone message with instructions on what to do.

Pustule “pus" on lower bottom

New Kit
Dear All,

I am not sure what it actually is. I also took my female rabbit to vet but as he is not a rabbit specialist, he doesn’t seem to understand the internal problem with her. There is a large pustule formation on the lower bottom opening. It also sags if seen from the side. The Vet squeezes the pustule and squirts the pus after every 3-4 days.
My female rabbit is never mated and is almost 7 years old. She has lost a lot of weight and now given up eating as well. She doesn’t respond to any sound much and sits at 1 place for hours. Is she losing the eye sight due to her health problems? coz she doesn't move her face when I try to distract her.
Please help me friends. I appreciate the help given. Thanks

It sounds as though your Rabbit is very sick. There is clearly a chronic infection going on. Has she received any medication at all ?

I am guessing that she has never been spayed (neutered/altered) ? If not then I am sad to say that the weightloss and other symptoms may be due to a uterine cancer.

A Rabbit who stops eating is also in serious trouble as their GI tract stops working. This can be fatal  So intensive treatment is needed for this too

I am assuming that you are not in the UK ? Are there other Vets you could get to now as your Rabbit really does sound to be in need of more specialist treatment urgently

As Jane said, your rabbit is in a bad way and needs help. Please try and find a different vet who has some rabbit experience.
