fostering?

I'm curious as to how it works? :) do you house them and pay for food/bills untill they are homed or is their financial help from the rescue? Or does it depend on the rescue?

Do you have to have lots of rabbity experience?

Thanks!

It depends on the rescue. You wouldnt need loads of experience but obviously you would need to know the basics, the rescue would help out with advice etc. Maybe speak to your local rescue about what would be involved with them :D

Like Webble said, it depends on the rescue! The cat rescue I foster for pays for food and medical bills, the rabbit rescue pays for medical bills.

Are you thinking of fostering? :)

My rescue pay vet bills and I pay day to day care. The main issue is time, the rabbits I have had have needed lots of socialising with humans to try and help them get a new home because they are easy to handle. They also tend to need lots of vet visits to get their vaccs sorted and neutering done. If you have the time, it's a fantastic experience.

Thank you :)

I am interested although I wouldnt even think about it untill I had more experience but i just wondered how it worked :) We have decided to move Daisy and Poppy into a shed in the spring when the weather is better for getting it ready and although I could use my double hutch in the shed as a hidy place for them I also thought I could use it for fostering a couple of needy buns...

Interesting to hear how it works though so please share your experiences! :)

Ireally wouldn't worry about experience. Your buns would also benefit given you would have a helpline to call when you needed it. The rescue will go over what you feed and your routines so you don't have to worry if you are doing the right thing.

I'm also thinking of fostering in the spring. I'd just worry that I wouldn't want to give them back!!

Yes thats what im a little worried about too :? Although I guess seeing them go off to their new home would be a lovely feeling and knowing that has then freed the space for two more needy buns :)

aliduncan, thank you :)

I love fostering! So far I have had Simba, Rambo, Oliver, Snowflake, Phineas, Sky, Rosie, Eva, Maria, Trekkie, Roxy and Ralph. I would have adopted Oliver but he was pts. I am tempted by Ralph and Roxy but know its not a good idea. Watching them go to their new homes is hard but I love it given they are often completely different to when they arrived and you know the rescue won't let them go unless the new home is perfect.
