  • Please Note - Medical Advice

Please keep in mind that posts on this forum are from members of the public sharing personal opinions. It is not a replacement for qualified medical advice from a veterinarian. Many illnesses share similar symptoms but require different treatments. A medical exam is necessary for an accurate diagnosis, without which appropriate treatment cannot be given.

You should always consult your vet before following any suggestions for medication or treatment you have read about. The wrong treatment could make your rabbit worse or mean your vet is unable to give the correct treatment because of drug interactions. Even non prescription drugs can do harm if given inappropriately.

We are very grateful to members who take time to answer other members questions, but please do be clear in your replies that you are sharing personal experience and not giving instructions on what must be done.

Urgent Medical Advice: If you need, or think you might need, urgent medical advice you should contact a vet. If it is out of working hours phone your vet's normal number and there should be an answer phone message with instructions on what to do.

Oh no!

Misty's Mummy

Warren Scout
I had a yoghurt and i dont know why but instead of putting it in the bin like a normal person, i put the empty pot on the floor and went to get a drink.
Anyway came back and Misty was licking the yoghurt pot!!!!

Is she going to get an upset stomach or anything? The yoghurt was vanilla.

I feel really bad

Watch her obviously, but I doubt the left over bits in an empty pot will cause any trouble. Scamp ran off with a yoghurt spoon the other day. He jumped on a table to nab it

Mine adore yogurt and I have been known to mix their baytril in with a small amount to get them to eat it! Might not be very good for them but it's once in a blue moon.

I guess it depends on the bun, but Mandy drinks quite a bit of Yogurt a day (only way to mask the horrible taste of her domperidone), and she never had any issues. Just don't go overboard with it, its a lot of sugar and could lead to a tsunami of uneaten cecotropes next morning =P
Buns are mammals, so lactose shouldn't be a problem. There are actually a lot of different opinions on the matter, some vets will say its good for them, some say its bad for them.

Just watch her, if she doesn't do anything weird (you could run into a one in a million chance of having a lactose intolerant bun), then you just found something else to treat her with every once in a while :)
