  • Please Note - Medical Advice

Please keep in mind that posts on this forum are from members of the public sharing personal opinions. It is not a replacement for qualified medical advice from a veterinarian. Many illnesses share similar symptoms but require different treatments. A medical exam is necessary for an accurate diagnosis, without which appropriate treatment cannot be given.

You should always consult your vet before following any suggestions for medication or treatment you have read about. The wrong treatment could make your rabbit worse or mean your vet is unable to give the correct treatment because of drug interactions. Even non prescription drugs can do harm if given inappropriately.

We are very grateful to members who take time to answer other members questions, but please do be clear in your replies that you are sharing personal experience and not giving instructions on what must be done.

Urgent Medical Advice: If you need, or think you might need, urgent medical advice you should contact a vet. If it is out of working hours phone your vet's normal number and there should be an answer phone message with instructions on what to do.

potato peelings-how toxic?

Wise Old Thumper
so, on a scale of 1 - 10, how toxic are they to a daft bunny? (small bun, about an inch of potato peeling scoffed)

I remember reading on here, but cannot remember the member, whose bunny used to eat potato peelings everyday, scraps of food put over the fence by a kind neighbour. They stopped it but the bunny was fine.

Buster chewed through a binliner once and ate aload of manky potateo peelings, he was fine (and very pleased with himself )

Smoo has eaten potato loads of times.
Bit missed the bin? She'll find it and run off with it.

yep - anything missed the bin and she's there!! i thought it was hawthorn but then realised it sounded way too crunchy to be that..........

When i was a kid i used to feed my rabbit potato peelings all the time as they were his favourite and i didnt know better at the time, he was fine. Used to make his poo go a bit soft i think if he ate too many but eating a tiny bit shouldnt do any harm.

We fed ALL of our rabbits growing up potato peelings - they were fine! I wouldn't advocate it but just to say don't worry at all :)
