  • Please Note - Medical Advice

Please keep in mind that posts on this forum are from members of the public sharing personal opinions. It is not a replacement for qualified medical advice from a veterinarian. Many illnesses share similar symptoms but require different treatments. A medical exam is necessary for an accurate diagnosis, without which appropriate treatment cannot be given.

You should always consult your vet before following any suggestions for medication or treatment you have read about. The wrong treatment could make your rabbit worse or mean your vet is unable to give the correct treatment because of drug interactions. Even non prescription drugs can do harm if given inappropriately.

We are very grateful to members who take time to answer other members questions, but please do be clear in your replies that you are sharing personal experience and not giving instructions on what must be done.

Urgent Medical Advice: If you need, or think you might need, urgent medical advice you should contact a vet. If it is out of working hours phone your vet's normal number and there should be an answer phone message with instructions on what to do.

Twinkle is the 2nd wife of Tommy who lost his 1st wife a month ago, sadly we lost Tommy over the weekend, having only had twinkle 2 weeks. Are you lost yet?

Anyway Twinkle was booked in for spaying today and is fine if a little sleepy. but the vet has said that she needs to be an indoor bunny for 10days, but my worry is that being in that length of time will stop her getting her winter coat?

Also how long do we need to wait before looking for her a new husband or maybe 2 (we are considering 2 bonded brothers) She has 2 checkups at the vets one in 2 days and one in 10 days. I dont want to leave her on her own too long because she was so loved up with Tommy even though she has had 5 years on her own before we got her.

Any suggestions please?

I would suggest not bonding her until a few weeks time because it's such a big operation and she will need time to heal internally.

Would it be a possiibility to keep her in until April/May time next year? (with her new friends when they arrive?)

If you keep her in and she has to go out then you will need to make sure the heating is off and windows are open, otherwise she won't cope with going back outside.
