Creams/Ointments for Sore hocks

Hello

I have been using Aloe Vera Gel on Molly's sore hocks for around 2 months now, and although it soothes her skin and her skin isn't any worse for it, I'm not seeing any major improvement, ie I want to see fur re-growth and softer skin. At the moment, its very dry, and mostly pink, with a few red spots.

I've heard about Dermagel, but not too sure about using it. Is Savlon Healing Cream something worth using?

Molly isn't on any antibiotics or pain relief right now, so I'm looking for something that I can use long term to help her skin recover and hopefully get at least some fur re-growth.

I used bepanthen and didnt really do too well with it. Jane suggested I try Savlon Healing Gel and that really seemed to help

sudocream just made her skin redder and more sore. :(

just looking at old pictures of her hocks, and I'm amazed. she had a really large patch of skin with no fur, and now, she only has a thin strip of skin on her hocks. I'll have to take some pictures tonight to show the difference, but it is quite astonishing. I'm really suprised, but then if you look at her feet every day, you can't see little changes, so it just looks the same all the time with no improvement.

flamazine can help but is a prescription only cream from the vet, also calendula cream helps soreness x

Hi there

My mini-lop (10 year old) had a very bad infected sore hock last year and I tried all sorts of creams, which didn't help very much. I did, however, buy some Dermagel, off the internet, and I found it did help a lot. His fur did grow back - it took a while, but it did grow and the Dermagel didn't crust over like some of the creams I had tried on him, causing big hard lumps of solid cream on his hock, which I then used to soak to get off!
I think it's good and well worth trying. Another tip for sore hocks is to get bunny off of any man-made materials, as these can rub the bottom of the hocks and cause more problems (friction burns, etc) and put him/her on a thick bed of straw, so as the feet can sink into the straw, similar to how bunnies are in the wild. Good luck - don't give up, sore hocks are notoriously difficult to treat, but with time and patience you can get them better.
