  • Please Note - Medical Advice

Please keep in mind that posts on this forum are from members of the public sharing personal opinions. It is not a replacement for qualified medical advice from a veterinarian. Many illnesses share similar symptoms but require different treatments. A medical exam is necessary for an accurate diagnosis, without which appropriate treatment cannot be given.

You should always consult your vet before following any suggestions for medication or treatment you have read about. The wrong treatment could make your rabbit worse or mean your vet is unable to give the correct treatment because of drug interactions. Even non prescription drugs can do harm if given inappropriately.

We are very grateful to members who take time to answer other members questions, but please do be clear in your replies that you are sharing personal experience and not giving instructions on what must be done.

Urgent Medical Advice: If you need, or think you might need, urgent medical advice you should contact a vet. If it is out of working hours phone your vet's normal number and there should be an answer phone message with instructions on what to do.

hi all.... if you have small bunnies or/and guineapigs and they use hayracks....please please REMOVE them.
today my OH found one of our sows UNCONSCIOUS with her head stuck in the hay rack
after removing her from the rack she regained consciousness and was rushed to the vet for a checkup..
shes fine...if we were not home she would have DIED
please please remove them as i would hate anyone else to go through this with possibly a worse outcome.
this has never happened to us before...so never say never...

That must of been terrifying :( I was thinking of using one of those flower wall basket things as a hay rack but I certainly wont now, thanks for the warning!

Thank you for thinking of everyone else when you've had such a traumatic event happen.

I completely agree with you. My Daisy bunny got her leg stuck in one and I had to rescue her - vet visit- bed rest etc.

Glad your piggie is ok.

i just wanted to make sure noone else s bun/piggie had a terrible ,maybe fatal accident...
my OH and i were just very glad we were at home ....not visiting our parents or working as we would have been gone for hours.... it doesnt bear thinking about....

I'm so glad all is ok; I can't begin to imagine the panic when you found her.

Glad your little one is OK. I have two hayracks, but they are not in use as Spenser quickly made it clear he preferred to eat his hay from the floor of the hutch.

just found out its a trixie one...with vertical black metal bars.. OH said she screamed when he tried to help her, he felt sick and had to try and keep calm:cry:
