2 of my rabbits have started Squeaking..

Hi,

A little worried about a couple of my rabbits who have both began squeaking when they eat, wash and sometimes whilst laying down. It really upsets me as they do it practically all day. One began this on Saturday the other, today, not sure why.. is it a sign of pain? I've read this on a couple of sites but they don't seem in pain. Although one has been diagnosed with snuffles and has been on penicillin injections for 2 months now. Could it be related to this?
Anyone with experience of this, does it stop after a few days or is this something that my rabbits are likely to do from now on?

Many Thanks in Advance,

Kate x

It's probably related to the snuffles. One of my rabbits, Nutmeg, squeaks. My vet who is an exotics specialist feels it is related to a past untreated case of snuffles (before she came to live with us) that has caused damage in her lungs.

Thanks for your reply, damage to the lungs doesn't sound too good :( Hope George my snuffles rabbit isn't squeaking because of that :( so he would be squeaking due to the pain :(
How long has your rabbit squeaked for? x

It can happen in snuffles cases but nutmeg is still very healthy and only squeaks when stressed and occasionally while sleeping. She's done it for as long as I've had her. Hopefully prompt treatment will minimise any damage and it will improve as the snuffles improves. :)

Ditto what Elena said...it's most likely to be snuffles rather than pain. Rabbits breathe through their nose, so when their airways are bunged up and narrowed they struggle to breathe normally and sometimes make a squeeking, whistling or quacking noise.

Sending lots of vibes x
