  • Please Note - Medical Advice

Please keep in mind that posts on this forum are from members of the public sharing personal opinions. It is not a replacement for qualified medical advice from a veterinarian. Many illnesses share similar symptoms but require different treatments. A medical exam is necessary for an accurate diagnosis, without which appropriate treatment cannot be given.

You should always consult your vet before following any suggestions for medication or treatment you have read about. The wrong treatment could make your rabbit worse or mean your vet is unable to give the correct treatment because of drug interactions. Even non prescription drugs can do harm if given inappropriately.

We are very grateful to members who take time to answer other members questions, but please do be clear in your replies that you are sharing personal experience and not giving instructions on what must be done.

Urgent Medical Advice: If you need, or think you might need, urgent medical advice you should contact a vet. If it is out of working hours phone your vet's normal number and there should be an answer phone message with instructions on what to do.

Travelling with Bunnies (for long periods, and also on boats)

I am moving to Guernsey later in the week with my buns, who will be in a carry case, in our car. Does anyone have any advice? Do they get sea sick? Can I give them anything to keep them calm?

Thanks so much

Heyy! welcome to the channel isles!

Which port are you coming from, fast boat or slow boat? I find the slow boat worse because although it's "calmer" after 9 hours of "calm" you feel like you've been tortured! lol, better to go on the fast boat if you can which is about 2 hours.

No idea about seasickness as I've only taken reptiles (four separate occasions) but I guess since they can't vomit you can only manage the feeling miserable and nauseous if they do react badly.

I'm not sure about the rules regarding bunnies, should be as bad as for dogs and cats. If you have a cabin, it might be worth very politely asking the staff you come into contact with on your way onto the boat about keeping your buns with you in your cabin. I've always been allowed to keep my reptiles with me, you just have to very nicely ask everyone you get a chance to! (unless someone says a direct no :( )
