Please keep in mind that posts on this forum are from members of the public sharing personal opinions. It is not a replacement for qualified medical advice from a veterinarian. Many illnesses share similar symptoms but require different treatments. A medical exam is necessary for an accurate diagnosis, without which appropriate treatment cannot be given.

You should always consult your vet before following any suggestions for medication or treatment you have read about. The wrong treatment could make your rabbit worse or mean your vet is unable to give the correct treatment because of drug interactions. Even non prescription drugs can do harm if given inappropriately.

We are very grateful to members who take time to answer other members questions, but please do be clear in your replies that you are sharing personal experience and not giving instructions on what must be done.

Urgent Medical Advice: If you need, or think you might need, urgent medical advice you should contact a vet. If it is out of working hours phone your vet's normal number and there should be an answer phone message with instructions on what to do.

Symptoms of tooth root/bone abscess?

Grasping at straws here but just wondering about Milly's abscess. It's under her chin, though more on her body though hard to tell exactly. It doesn't seem to have grown much if at all since Friday.

She's so much better in herself though. She's hopping around more and last night was ravenous and ate plates of veggies and hay and even dry food which she's not eaten for a couple of weeks. She bit me today as I gave her her meds-HARD so she's definately feeling better! I compare it to syringing a crocodile-she looks at me, looks at my shoulder and ow!

If the abscess was in her jaw or a tooth root would she not be in too much pain to eat? She''s on .5ml metacam orally a day.

I know it's down to an xray really, but just thinking that maybe this isn't as bad as it could be and could 'just' be pasterella and not in the bone? She's gone through so much and I just want and need to believe we'll get through this new nightmare. Has anyone any experience of tooth root/jaw abscesses that could advise how the symtoms presented please?
