  • Please Note - Medical Advice

Please keep in mind that posts on this forum are from members of the public sharing personal opinions. It is not a replacement for qualified medical advice from a veterinarian. Many illnesses share similar symptoms but require different treatments. A medical exam is necessary for an accurate diagnosis, without which appropriate treatment cannot be given.

You should always consult your vet before following any suggestions for medication or treatment you have read about. The wrong treatment could make your rabbit worse or mean your vet is unable to give the correct treatment because of drug interactions. Even non prescription drugs can do harm if given inappropriately.

We are very grateful to members who take time to answer other members questions, but please do be clear in your replies that you are sharing personal experience and not giving instructions on what must be done.

Urgent Medical Advice: If you need, or think you might need, urgent medical advice you should contact a vet. If it is out of working hours phone your vet's normal number and there should be an answer phone message with instructions on what to do.

Those who have bunnies that DO eat hay

BorisnHannibal

Young Bun
Have you tried buying tunnels and matts made of seagrass and hay? Boris generally doesn't eat too much hay, but buy him a tube or play mat made of natural edible materials and it's gone overnight. ... Or books....lol... Damn bunny just loves trying to eat my books

I'm with you here, Elsa does not eat any hay, never has never will despite trying to tempt her with hay experts selections, chopped hay mixed with things she likes etc etc... (hence she now has teeth problems and is 9 and about to go in for her 2d GA dental in 2 months)
When I see a rabbit eating hay it makes me want to cry with happiness... well that's an exaggeration but I'd cry if Elsa did!

My last bunny didn't want to eat hay. I managed to get him to eat grasses in toys I bought at "pets at home" worked... so there was a "carrot patch" and a "carrot Tree". I also found wicker things in the pet shop like balls and wreath shaped things he would go for and I ended up never having to have his teeth done, not sure if that was down to the wicker or just I was very lucky. I hope that helps.

What does he eat? Do you give him a lot of pellets? I'm working on cutting back pellets for my bun so she'll eat more hay.

I have a bun who dosen't eat hay! he's 5 now and had him since 18months and he has never ever eaten hay!

Thanks for the ideas everyone, I've tried a lot of things but toys where he has to chew on mats and things aren't possible for him to eat as he has no incisors to tug on them with. :(

I used to give him a lot of pellets to et his weight up but now he only has a handful and the rest of his diet is hay and veg. :)
