yes, i would definatley say that's acceptable, aslong as they have run time (like you said) for a few hours a day and you socialise with them. i wouldn't over clutter the hutch with toys, tunnels etc.. because otherwise it would be more like an obstacle course than having space just to stretch out and hop around.
