  • Please Note - Medical Advice

Please keep in mind that posts on this forum are from members of the public sharing personal opinions. It is not a replacement for qualified medical advice from a veterinarian. Many illnesses share similar symptoms but require different treatments. A medical exam is necessary for an accurate diagnosis, without which appropriate treatment cannot be given.

You should always consult your vet before following any suggestions for medication or treatment you have read about. The wrong treatment could make your rabbit worse or mean your vet is unable to give the correct treatment because of drug interactions. Even non prescription drugs can do harm if given inappropriately.

We are very grateful to members who take time to answer other members questions, but please do be clear in your replies that you are sharing personal experience and not giving instructions on what must be done.

Urgent Medical Advice: If you need, or think you might need, urgent medical advice you should contact a vet. If it is out of working hours phone your vet's normal number and there should be an answer phone message with instructions on what to do.

**Vibes please for Woody's vet visit today**U/D good news!

My foster boy Woody has been losing weight for a while now. He has no other symptoms at all and is still as excited by food as ever and as jumpy as he can be (for a blind bunny). He and Crumpet (and all the buns) had a 28 day Panacur course - it made no difference. I bulked up his food intake (he loves his bunny porridge  ) - no difference. He had a steroid injection and has been on metacam for two weeks. We go back today to see if there is a difference. If not it will be x-rays/blood tests.

I may have made wrong decisions for him, I hope I haven't. Please don't jump on me if I have. Just please send vibes for him that either this has stopped or we find out what is wrong or at the very worst that it is just age related :( He seems perfectly happy and content, still flopping out completely bless him, loves his food and a fuss, even cuddles up in your arms

Vet is stumped as he is showing no other symptoms at all and hasn't deteriorated in any way other than the weightloss. He ventured that it could just be age. The trouble is because he was dumped we just don't know how old is just that he is old (could be 9/10 years).

Just to say, I did discuss the decisions with Kris, we're all stumped as to what is wrong with him, so it's hard to see if it's the right decision or not (if you see what I mean).

Sending loads of vibes for the little blind man who loves his flops!

Hope the vet can get to the bottom of this.

I don't think anyone can jump on you. You've given him a home, provided him with veterinary care where needed. Thats just awesome :thumb:

Let us know how you get on.

I really hope that he has shown improvement, and if not, that the cause for the weightloss can be uncovered :)

Aw thank you, It's not that awesome though - he's a foster bun  sorry I should have said. I don't think of him that way anymore though. Have edited the top post to clarify.

GOOD NEWS!!! :D

Woody hasn't lost anymore weight!!! In fact he even put on a teeny-tiny bit :D

Not out of the woods yet, going back in three weeks to check him over (due myxo as well). If he drops again, will have to decide whether to give more steroids, although I'm wondering whether we should do the tests to look for a cause anyway? :?

Thank you for the vibes everyone

I would always want diagnostics before randomly giving steroid injections. But good news that he is improving :)
