  • Please Note - Medical Advice

Please keep in mind that posts on this forum are from members of the public sharing personal opinions. It is not a replacement for qualified medical advice from a veterinarian. Many illnesses share similar symptoms but require different treatments. A medical exam is necessary for an accurate diagnosis, without which appropriate treatment cannot be given.

You should always consult your vet before following any suggestions for medication or treatment you have read about. The wrong treatment could make your rabbit worse or mean your vet is unable to give the correct treatment because of drug interactions. Even non prescription drugs can do harm if given inappropriately.

We are very grateful to members who take time to answer other members questions, but please do be clear in your replies that you are sharing personal experience and not giving instructions on what must be done.

Urgent Medical Advice: If you need, or think you might need, urgent medical advice you should contact a vet. If it is out of working hours phone your vet's normal number and there should be an answer phone message with instructions on what to do.

rear end?

Hi all, i've just been out stroking my bunnies and just checked both my bunnies rear ends and my girly bunny rear end doesnt look quite right - or so I think? compared to how it normally looks and my male bunnys bum it looks kinda cheesy?? it doesnt look like maggots or anything but just like a white thick bit round her bum, is this the start of flystrike or do girls get discharge?

It is abnormal for a Rabbit to have a discharge.

Without being able to examine her it is impossible to say what the problem is.

Flystrike is a possibility and if this were to be the problem she needs Veterinary attention now

Other possibilities are bladder sludge, a Uterine Infection (if she is not spayed), Impacted scent glands...........

All require Veterinary attention

Hi thanks for your quick reply, she has been spayed was done a couple of months ago, it does look like a thick discharge round her bum?

I am afraid the only way you are going to find out what is wrong is to take her to a Vet

Meanwhile you do need to clean her up as she is at a high risk of flystrike if she is not keeping herself clean.
