  • Please Note - Medical Advice

Please keep in mind that posts on this forum are from members of the public sharing personal opinions. It is not a replacement for qualified medical advice from a veterinarian. Many illnesses share similar symptoms but require different treatments. A medical exam is necessary for an accurate diagnosis, without which appropriate treatment cannot be given.

You should always consult your vet before following any suggestions for medication or treatment you have read about. The wrong treatment could make your rabbit worse or mean your vet is unable to give the correct treatment because of drug interactions. Even non prescription drugs can do harm if given inappropriately.

We are very grateful to members who take time to answer other members questions, but please do be clear in your replies that you are sharing personal experience and not giving instructions on what must be done.

Urgent Medical Advice: If you need, or think you might need, urgent medical advice you should contact a vet. If it is out of working hours phone your vet's normal number and there should be an answer phone message with instructions on what to do.

little lumps on ears.

My buns had a bit of a scrap a couple of weeks ago, and his ear got scratched. It scabbed over nicely and I didn't think much of it until maybe a week and a bit later when I was stroking him and I felt that he had not one, but two little bumps on his ear. Kind of lentil sized (the little red ones, not the big green ones). They look a little bit like a spot under the skin, I noticed them on Tuesday, but are do not seem to be getting any bigger or any smaller and do not seem to be causing discomfort.

I have now started checking the ears of both buns. (his more thoroughly than hers, possibly). But this afternoon I noticed she had one too.

Again, small, not seeming to cause discomfort. Is it a case of keep and eye and take to the vets if they get worse. Does anyone have any ideas what it might be?

Without being able to see and feel the lumps it is impossible to say for certain what they are. But given the history of a 'scrap' they are probably healed wounds/scar tissue.

But as I say, not possible to tell you what they are without examining them so if you are concerned I would get your Vet to take a look.

Of course Myxomatosis can present with lumps on the ears, but what you describe does not sound like Myxi. Again impossible to say for certain.

Okay. Cool. Well, they're both all vaccinated up. And they're both lops. And they both need their claws trimmed - I should have done it before I bonded them, but I only bonded them this week so am putting it off for another week to avoid stressing them out too much when only newly bonded.
