Please keep in mind that posts on this forum are from members of the public sharing personal opinions. It is not a replacement for qualified medical advice from a veterinarian. Many illnesses share similar symptoms but require different treatments. A medical exam is necessary for an accurate diagnosis, without which appropriate treatment cannot be given.

You should always consult your vet before following any suggestions for medication or treatment you have read about. The wrong treatment could make your rabbit worse or mean your vet is unable to give the correct treatment because of drug interactions. Even non prescription drugs can do harm if given inappropriately.

Help with administering oral medication PLEASE

KJBunny

New Kit
I have been treating my bunny for ringworm using Itrafungol perscribed by my vet. I have had to put the oily liquid on her food as she will not let me put the 1 ml long thin syringe into her tiny mouth. But now she is being really fussy with her food. She only has 7 more doses to go. Any tips on how to get this medication into her system???!!!

Thanks!

Have you tried wrapping her up firmly in a towel so that just her nose and mouth are exposed ? You may find it useful to have someone else hold her whilst you administer the syringe into the side of her mouth, just behind her Incisor Teeth. Handling needs to be firm (but not rough) and confident as she will sense any anxiety on the part of the person dealing with her.

Having the towel wrap actually covering her eyes too will help calm her.

I completely recommend the towel wrap - I did this with Adelle for 3 weeks when I had to administer medicine earlier in the year. I also gave her a treat afterwards so she quickly learnt the sooner she let me do what she needed, and she got treats afterwards - and she knew exactly how many and she never let me forget. So at least these situations always ended on a positive note for both of us and she had no lingering bad taste.

Success!!!

Thanks for the advice! Worked a treat with the towel! Watched a You tube clip which shown me how to wrap her properly and it works a treat. Always a battle of wills for the first 3 attempts but by the fourth, she gives in and lets me give her the medication.

Ringworm clearing up fabulously!

Thanks again!

When can i relax on the daily disinfecting and deep clean.

When can i relax on the disinfecting and deep cleaning of the hutch on a daily basis? Bunny only has 6 days of treatment left (out of 15days).

Do you have any experience with the treatment of ringworm?

Thanks.
