  • Please Note - Medical Advice

Please keep in mind that posts on this forum are from members of the public sharing personal opinions. It is not a replacement for qualified medical advice from a veterinarian. Many illnesses share similar symptoms but require different treatments. A medical exam is necessary for an accurate diagnosis, without which appropriate treatment cannot be given.

You should always consult your vet before following any suggestions for medication or treatment you have read about. The wrong treatment could make your rabbit worse or mean your vet is unable to give the correct treatment because of drug interactions. Even non prescription drugs can do harm if given inappropriately.

We are very grateful to members who take time to answer other members questions, but please do be clear in your replies that you are sharing personal experience and not giving instructions on what must be done.

Urgent Medical Advice: If you need, or think you might need, urgent medical advice you should contact a vet. If it is out of working hours phone your vet's normal number and there should be an answer phone message with instructions on what to do.

Dylans at vets tonight - probably tooth probs

Came home from work last night to find Dylan (harlequin mini lop) with a bad runny eye. Cleaned it up and gave him a good check over, he has a strange smell by his mouth so off to the vets we go tonight at 5.30

He's approx 7/8 years old, and never had tooth problems. I hope it's just something caught between his teeth and easily sorted and not an infection or abscess :(

Keep thinking positive, hope the little man is ok :)

Lots of bunny vibes coming your way! :)

Please let us know how he gets on x

Thanks for your messages.

The new vets were nice, very knowledgable but expensive .. £50 for eye drops, NSAID jab and consult

The outcome is that Dylan does have a few spurs but not ulceration, no redness etc and vet thinks it maybe eye infection. He had dye put in to check tears etc, all ok, so we have anti-bio eye drops but if not better or gets worse then he is to go back for x-rays as it maybe tooth root problems :(

Dylan is acting his normal self (quiet!) but only nibbling bits and seems in a bit of discomfort orally, this maybe from the check-up?

I'm going to syringe some food into him later just to ward of tum probs.
