How old are rabbits when sexually mature?

Aimeedan

New Kit
Hiya,

Need abit of experianced help.
I brought 2 doe lionheads off a lady last week, i was told they were both the same age. They are both definitely females, however one has teats, the other does not?

This makes me think, the one with the teats must be older than the other?!
Does anyone know how old they are when they develop teats? so it can help me determind how old this bunny is, and if she is ready to breed.

Thanks

Aimee :)

I should think you're just not finding them.

You need to look at the gentiles to sex rabbits. Also keep in mind, boys won't have any visible testicles until they drop around the 3-4 month old mark.

Are you planning on breeding or do you want to know so you can get them neutered? Males can be neutered as soon as their testicles drop, females are usually done around 5-6 months old. With two females it's still important to neuter as they can get quite territorial and that will prevent fighting.

If you plan on breeding you need to go to a reputable breeder, who will give you several generations of family history, be able to accurate sex them and give you advice on which two rabbits are compatible. If you mate any two rabbits together you can easily end up with a whole range of genetic defects such as teeth and heart problems, and deformed kits.

thanks for you reply :)
yeah i have done.
Is it possible the doe with the large visable teats could be older in age?

Thanks
Aimee :)
