  • Please Note - Medical Advice

Please keep in mind that posts on this forum are from members of the public sharing personal opinions. It is not a replacement for qualified medical advice from a veterinarian. Many illnesses share similar symptoms but require different treatments. A medical exam is necessary for an accurate diagnosis, without which appropriate treatment cannot be given.

You should always consult your vet before following any suggestions for medication or treatment you have read about. The wrong treatment could make your rabbit worse or mean your vet is unable to give the correct treatment because of drug interactions. Even non prescription drugs can do harm if given inappropriately.

We are very grateful to members who take time to answer other members questions, but please do be clear in your replies that you are sharing personal experience and not giving instructions on what must be done.

Urgent Medical Advice: If you need, or think you might need, urgent medical advice you should contact a vet. If it is out of working hours phone your vet's normal number and there should be an answer phone message with instructions on what to do.

Scab within ear???

Hi Everyone

Haven't posted on here in absolutely ages but could really do with some advice. Denzil (6yr old lop) has developed a scab in his ear. Its not causing him any problems but its quite big. Whilst checking his ears today I accidentally knocked it and it began bleeding. Again, this didn't cause him any problems, he didn't even seem to notice. I think it may just be because Daisy is cleaning him a bit too vigourously!!!

Is there any cream I can get from a pet shop? I was thinking animal tea tree cream just to aid healing and keep the area clean?

Thanks :D

Without being able to see it it is impossible to say what it may be. So I would suggest you get your Vet to take a look. It could be a scab from a healing injury, it could be a wart, it could be a sign of a problem WITHIN the ear canal, it could be a malignant lesion, amongst other things. Until you know exactly what it is I would not start applying creams or potions to it, you may make things worse.
