Please keep in mind that posts on this forum are from members of the public sharing personal opinions. It is not a replacement for qualified medical advice from a veterinarian. Many illnesses share similar symptoms but require different treatments. A medical exam is necessary for an accurate diagnosis, without which appropriate treatment cannot be given.

You should always consult your vet before following any suggestions for medication or treatment you have read about. The wrong treatment could make your rabbit worse or mean your vet is unable to give the correct treatment because of drug interactions. Even non prescription drugs can do harm if given inappropriately.

Urgent Medical Advice: If you need, or think you might need, urgent medical advice you should contact a vet. If it is out of working hours phone your vet's normal number and there should be an answer phone message with instructions on what to do.

Neutering to Love?

Hello

I am getting my new boy neutered this week (all going well) and I was wondering about time scales for finding him a new love? My hope is to get him an already neutered rescue female but I don't want to seriously start looking too early so I wondered how long I would have to wait?

Thank you

I think you have to wait 8 weeks after a neuter to make sure he can't get a female pregnant and for his hormones to quieten down, but am not certain.

I would check with your vet and with the rescue.

 If his intended is already spayed I would wait about a fortnight for him to recover from his op and ensure that his wounds are healing well. You may need to vary it a bit if he's still very frisky or if he doesn't heal well, but I think about 2 weeks would be about right. If his intended isn't already spayed I would wait 6 weeks - although it would be a far easier bond and far preferable for her to already be done so they can just get on with relaxing and living together

I recently had Dave 'snipped' and my vet recommended that he stay away from Chaz for 4-8 weeks to ensure that there wasn't anything left behind...
