(Edit 00.30 07/08/11; If anyone can think or suggest ways I can actually improve my set up I'd be grateful. Never adopteds from a rescue before, well not for my own pets, so not really sure what to do. Think I'm on the right track, with making sure everything is safe.
But am I overlooking anything? What else do I need to have in place or be willing to do? Ben is already neutered, vacced, insured and chipped and any other pet will be.
Help calm my nerves?)

I'm hoping to get Benjamin a female companion THIS MONTH! The Future father in law FINALLY agreed after me going one, directly and constantly and sometimes without realising it, how much Ben needs company. Of his own species! Evie the cat, (who keeps joining him to munch hay), is not a suitable all time compamnion. Also due to the fact she can jump over the gate across the kitchen door to run off, leaving Ben alone.

As a result I looked around to see what does were available in Scotland, and found one I really would like to give a home too, and hopefully following a succcessful home check (fingers crossed), we should be getting this lovely girl to join us and become Ben's companion.

*crosses everything*

I just hope they approve my set up. I think its ok.

Ben has a 2 storey hutch in the kitchen as his "den", but the doors to this are NEVER closed. I'd take one off if it didn't get used to hang veggies on! He then has total free range of the kitchen. Its long and narrow, but seems enough space for him. I even managed to get pieces of carpet put down over the lino so Ben wouldn't slip but can bolt up and down. There's a large hay andwooden pellet filled litter tray for him at one end. (Never used the litter tray I put in his hutch, but chose a corner of the kitchen). He also has an actual box filled with toys (ever growing as I buy/make them), to entertain him when we're not in the kitchen to grumble at!
The kitchen is seperated using a modified baby gate, but this gets opened most evenings/whenever we're in the lounge for more than 5 minutes, so Ben can come out and play. Though he spends most of his time hiding behind the couch dozing (or tearing off all the wallpaper he can reach!). He can spend from 1-6hrs with lounge access depending upon the day and timing.
We're getting some 6" flexi pipes to put down behind the sofas to make the room a bit more secure from bunny teeth finding wires/wallpaper. The electric cables are all getting nailed up out the way from curious noses, though he ignores them completely now.
The lounge has a litter tray for Evie and 2 for Ben to use. Also water bowl, water bottle and food bowl in the front room. For entertainment there's people to climb on, tickle with whiskers, trousers and shoes to nibble or dig, a scratching post to chew at or dig and a closed box with a tube coming out as a den to hide in.

If the home check is fine, Codi will be coming to join us. I plan to put her in Ben's old indoor hutch. Its one of the medium-large indoor hutches from P@H. Ben had this before the double one got bought, but alats opne once he'd settled in. This cage we plan to put in the front room, closed sometimes so Codi can get used to us wandering around, Evie can investigate her and hopefully accept her, and so I can let Ben out to snff her through the bars.
When Ben met Evie, it was done oddly... Ben was allowed out for the evening, and Evie was just wandering the house as she liked to do. She came ino the front room and just looked at Ben for ages from the comfort of a chair arm. There were games of chase with no aggression/claws/teeth/ Ben kept trying to groom Evie and still does, but she never lets him. After about a week of this Evie was going in to visit and play with Ben unsupervised. (I Know some would disagree with this... but hoping wont damage home check!)
Hoping that maybe could use this method to bond them... Or take them for a ride in the car. Ben loves to sprawl in the back seat of the car.

Really hoping it all works out!

Finding this lovely lady didn't stop me looking at a few others! Though I'm only allow 1 doe to make it a pair I adore this selection too. If things don't work with Codi, guess will be looking around...
