Firsty; Hello I'm new to the forums and I've had a good old lurk. You seem like a helpful bunch, so I wondered if I could come here and ask for some advice.
A year ago, I adopted a dwarf lop. She's so sweet. She was named Brown Bear because her mother chewed her ears as a baby, resulting in one of them being rounded like a teddy's. Unfortunately, she's a poorly little thing. (I say little but she's approximately 5-6 years old now.)
A few months ago she stopped eating and drinking. All four incisors were over-grown so she went to the vet to have them sorted under general. The vet also found that she had this problem with a molar and had developed a callus in the back of her mouth which was now harmless. The vet also pointed out that her jaw was very out of line and her teeth grow in funny/different directions too. They're very gappy. The teeth very quickly create the same problem and she's having monthly general anaesthetics to fix them. It's doing my purse no favours, the operations are costing around £100 a time which I'm struggling to afford because I'm a skint student, and I also don't like having to put her through it so often.
In comparison, my buck who I've had for 3 years now is as healthy as they come. He has beautiful teeth. They share a hutch and are lovely together. They eat the same dry pellets although he is a much bigger fan of eating hay and greens than she is.
Her last operation was 4 weeks ago today and she needs to go to the vet this evening/tomorrow morning to go through it again. This time though, one of the lower teeth is completely loose which has me worried. Could this be a further/more comlex problem if her tooth is so wobbly?
I really, really could do with some advice. My vet hasn't mentioned extraction at all and every book I look in says something different. Does anyone have any experience with poor teeth? Should I be talking to the vet about extraction? Obviously she comes first, but I'm struggling so badly with the bills.
