  • Please Note - Medical Advice

Please keep in mind that posts on this forum are from members of the public sharing personal opinions. It is not a replacement for qualified medical advice from a veterinarian. Many illnesses share similar symptoms but require different treatments. A medical exam is necessary for an accurate diagnosis, without which appropriate treatment cannot be given.

You should always consult your vet before following any suggestions for medication or treatment you have read about. The wrong treatment could make your rabbit worse or mean your vet is unable to give the correct treatment because of drug interactions. Even non prescription drugs can do harm if given inappropriately.

We are very grateful to members who take time to answer other members questions, but please do be clear in your replies that you are sharing personal experience and not giving instructions on what must be done.

Urgent Medical Advice: If you need, or think you might need, urgent medical advice you should contact a vet. If it is out of working hours phone your vet's normal number and there should be an answer phone message with instructions on what to do.

Is this the start of sore hocks? (pics)

Bunny is a 3.5 year old nethie x. He's a house rabbit (on kitchen tiles, laminate flooring and carpet), with some freerange time in our garden, which is paving slabs and grass.

Here is a pic of his feet (sorry it's not very clear, but you can see a pink bit of skin through the hair on the top foot, and it looks like the skin is very dry there). Does it look like sore hocks, or am I panicking over nothing? :(

They have a base, as follows:

House: flooring is one of the seagrass mats from The Hay Experts
Food area: just a plastic storage box lined with newspaper
Litter tray: Megazorb and hay

They don't actually spend that much time in their base (apart from eating and pooing), and spend most of the time on the dining chairs under the table :)roll:), which are cushioned with tea towels on top to stop them making them mucky.

ETA: they have been spending a lot of time outside at the moment, as I can leave the door open for them as I work @ home and can see them. Perhaps it's just the extra time on the paving slabs that is making his skin a bit hard there?
